Everything Starts With An 'E'

edit

5x expanded by Launchballer (talk). Self-nominated at 09:56, 12 August 2015 (UTC).

  • ALT1 ... that despite being banned by the BBC, E-Zee Possee and MC Kinky's "Everything Starts With An 'E'" was once played by Dave Pearce on his BBC Radio 2 show "Dance Years"? --Launchballer 10:03, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
  • I'm noticing problems with formatting for some of the citations. Access dates are missing for some of the web-based sources, and citation #7 has a very improper citation format. The lead and overall writing of the article looks fine, though. 和DITOREtails 13:15, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
I copied a number of references from MC Kinky, which I wrote during a time where I had no idea how to form references properly. They've all been updated into cite templates.--Launchballer 14:12, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
One of the background vocalists, Boy George, has recently been confirmed as a judge on The Voice UK. Before I start adding bits and writing new hooks, is it worth capitalising upon this? I've added accessdates, in any event.--Launchballer 22:09, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
It's not really necessary to the article, so I wouldn't add it. 和DITOREtails 19:38, 20 August 2015 (UTC)
Looks ready. Pretty decent work here, my friend. 和DITOREtails 12:35, 5 September 2015 (UTC)
  • I've just pulled this from prep because there's a "citation needed" tag at the end of the lede (and it's justified, too; that's a pretty extraordinary claim, and it isn't covered in the body of the article). A source will be needed, or the lede revised. In addition, the original hook, which had been promoted, was changed due to objections at WT:DYK; it's below as ALT2 and should be specifically reviewed. Finally, with the extensive edits to the article earlier today, it should probably be rechecked before being approved. (Also, there's a proposal to move the article since "With An" should probably not be capitalized, which we should keep an eye on and adjust this template if such a move occurs.) BlueMoonset (talk) 15:09, 12 September 2015 (UTC)
I've removed both the citation needed tags. The first one is synthesis of the final paragraph of Everything Starts With An 'E'#Promotion and release, synthesis being a common feature of my articles. The second one did in fact have a reference; the entire text before the first usage of [3] is covered by it. Once the move proposal is over and done with, another reviewer can have a look but I have received a notice on my talk page which as with Thea Austin indicates that it has been removed from T:TDYK.--Launchballer 23:05, 13 September 2015 (UTC)
  • It appears that this nomination was deleted from T:TDYK when it was promoted, and it may well be my fault for not noticing this when I pulled it from prep; it has now been restored to the nominations page. However, I don't see the synthesis covering the first of the citation needed templates, the one in the lead, and I've restored it and added another there. Two retrospective reviews do not cover a critical response that is likely to be read in the lead as contemporary (were there no contemporaneous reviews?), and the info about the music video and the reason "no one dared" play it absolutely needs citing, otherwise it's an unsupported extraordinary claim. Until these are properly handled, Launchballer, there's no point in calling for a reviewer, which was my initial plan until I checked what the removed "citation needed" templates had been asking for. I've struck ALT1 based on the issues raised on the article's talk page, and I'm also wondering about ALT2: was the BBC ban still in place when the song was rereleased and made it to #15? If so, then that hook won't fly either. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:12, 15 November 2015 (UTC)
There may have been reviews at the time, I just couldn't see them when I looked. I've changed them to "no-one played" and "retrospective critical reception" in the lede. Yes, the BBC ban was in place when it made the top twenty; how does that obstruct ALT2?--Launchballer 09:03, 15 November 2015 (UTC)
Sorry, that should have been "If not" rather than "If so"; ALT2 works if the ban was still in place at that time. However, you do need a cite for "offensive lyrical content"—I think it would be best if that was also mentioned in the body of the article with an appropriate citation rather than citing it in the lead. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 14:17, 15 November 2015 (UTC)
Fixed.--Launchballer 18:17, 15 November 2015 (UTC)
  • Full review needed, since original review didn't cover many of the DYK criteria (such as neutrality and close paraphrasing, and even length and newness aren't specifically stated). Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 20:28, 15 November 2015 (UTC)
Three months without a full review. That must be some sort of record...--Launchballer 20:47, 15 November 2015 (UTC)
  • Where was this hiding? I don't remember seeing it the last time I checked for old noms needing review.
Expanded from 886 to 4255 characters, by my count... which is 175 characters short of a 5x expansion. Presumably there was more there that's been trimmed back over the past few months. Hopefully you won't find it too difficult to add another couple of sentences to the article, Launchballer.
  • The article appears well-cited other than as noted below, and is both neutral and copyvio-free; the QPQ checks out and there is no image.
  • The hook is short enough and interesting enough. It was missing a "'s" which I added in. Another issue, however, is that the song is only referred to as "the anthem of the acid house movement" in the lead, not in the body, and the source cited for the lead sentence does not use "anthem" to refer to this song, nor does it suggest "Everything Begins With an 'E'" was more representative of the acid house or hip house styles than any of the other 20+ songs listed. You could get around some of this by changing "the anthem" to "an anthem" but I would be more comfortable if you either found a source for it being an anthem or changed the word anthem entirely (in both article and hook). Ball's in your court. —GrammarFascist contribstalk 14:47, 16 November 2015 (UTC)
It was pulled from prep two months ago but has been reinstated. The body does indeed mention it but instead describes it as the flagship for the genre. According to DYKcheck, current character count is 4585.--Launchballer 05:34, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
Since you're using "anthem of acid house" in the hook, and it's in the lead, I do think "anthem" should appear in the body as well — though "the flagship for George's More Protein label" is fine and indeed works very well. Alternately (or additionally) you could add reference 8 to the lead. As for the character count, I had mistakenly excluded direct quotations other than block quotations; with those included, I find 4599 characters, which is well over 5x. (I used the character count tool in the DYK Toolbox since I don't have DYKCheck installed.) Sorry for the confusion earlier. —GrammarFascist contribstalk 08:16, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
Added both.--Launchballer 09:11, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
Okay then. From the top: nominated within a week of when the expansion began; long enough; meets policies including NPOV and inline citations, and is free of copyvio; hook is short enough, interesting enough, accurate, cited and NPOV; QPQ checks out and no image is included. This QPQ is GTG! —GrammarFascist contribstalk 09:52, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
