Arbana Xharra edit

  • ... that Arbana Xharra, who stirs up debate about religious extremism, is a courageous woman?

Created by SusunW (talk). Nominated by Victuallers (talk) at 10:25, 14 March 2015 (UTC).

  • Well, it's new enough and long enough. I'm still checking refs; so far so good (no plagiarism, for instance), but I'm copyediting as I roll along. Anyway, we can't do this hook. I don't really see where she stirs up debate, and that she's courageous, yeah, I see that--but it's not the kind of thing we have in a hook, so I suggest, SusunW and Victuallers, that you come up with a different one: I think the subject has done enough to deliver a good hook. Drmies (talk) 02:03, 16 March 2015 (UTC)
  • I believe @Victuallers: was using a play on the names of the awards she received in the hook. It is indeed verified in a link that she won the "‘Stirring Up Debate’ award for sparking discussion in society on difficult topics such as religious radicalism" and the "Women of Courage Award". But if you don't like that one, ALT1: ... that Arbana Xharra uncovered links to terrorist organizations while investigating religious extremism? SusunW (talk) 02:25, 16 March 2015 (UTC)
  • I figured it was something like that, yes--but Victuallers can't play fast and loose at DYK, where we're Really Quite Serious. My suggestion is (and this is a problem with the first one) that you stick in her profession, and a location for the extremism. I can't do that for you, or I won't be able to check it off. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 02:37, 16 March 2015 (UTC)
@Drmies: comment: I'm surprised at the tone taken here. As I understand it the rules are the rules. You may not like the hook and you may not consider it serious, but this woman has international awards that underwrite the veracity of the hooks assertion. I don't want to hold up SusunW's approval, but I don't want a precedent to be established here. Is your objection just that it doesn't mention the location? I think the "fast and loose" assertion is a Bit Uncalled For? Victuallers (talk) 08:26, 16 March 2015 (UTC)
Victuallers, I thought the "Really Quite Serious" bit would indicate an attempt at humor. Also, a statement like "is a courageous woman" is usually taken to mean something like "is considered courageous by the following notable judges of courage" and as such should be either a. expanded to indicate what is vulgarly called "POV" here or b. rephrased. I don't think I am saying anything new here. I also don't want to establish precedent, which is why I asked for the hook to be tweaked, also because the word play simply wasn't that good (sorry). Thank you. Drmies (talk) 14:56, 16 March 2015 (UTC)
@Drmies: Apologies for taking your "Really Quite Serious" in a Really Quite Serious way. I was worried that we were getting Really Quite Serious ... I'm pleased that this is not the case Victuallers (talk) 16:06, 16 March 2015 (UTC)
  • @Drmies: My hooks are never as catchy as Victuallers' but
Alt2: ... that investigative journalist Arbana Xharra uncovered links to terrorist organizations while investigating religious extremism in Kosovo?
I don't know how to line through the old one either. Sorry. SusunW (talk) 02:47, 16 March 2015 (UTC)
