American logistics in the Northern France campaign

  • ... that American logistics in the Northern France campaign was impacted by the loss of tires, nearly two thirds of which was attributable to running over carelessly discarded American C-ration cans that littered the roads? Source: "Maintenance units reported that 65 percent of tire losses resulted from running over C ration cans that littered the highway." (Offline, I'm afraid, but if you Google the quote it will show you the page)
    • ALT1:... that American logistics in the Northern France campaign was impacted by a critical shortage of jerricans, over 2 million of which had been discarded or abandoned in Normandy? Source: "By the end of August the supply of jerricans had become a critical factor limiting the forward supply of POL" (p.664) and "Empty jerricans also presented a major problem. Over 2,000,000 had been left behind in Normandy." (p. 51) [1]

  • Hi Hawkeye7, review follows: article promoted to GA on 14 August; article excellently written and cited inline throughout to top notch sources; I didn't check anywhere near all of the sources but a spot check on a sample of citations didn't throw up any concerns over close paraphrasing; hooks are brilliant, mentioned in the article and sources; I linked C-ration in the first hook as I think it might be useful to readers; a QPQ has been completed. This is a truly excellent article that'll be great for DYK - Dumelow (talk) 05:59, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
