Altars for Peace
... that the first Altar for Peace was built from a 300 year old tree that took a week to cut, a process that was almost derailed when woodworkers hit a concrete pipe in it?

- Comment: I wonder if we might be able to squeeze this in for International Peace Day, 21 september

- Interesting article and topic, on fine sources, no copyvio obvious. I'm not quite happy with the hook, because I think we should say it's a series of wood-cut art works. One of them - as in the hook - could be in italics, to clarify that. I - as a reader - would be more interested in the global significance than in the difficulties of the first one. Ideas? I support Peace Day, but then we should move fast. Will return later today. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:34, 13 September 2021 (UTC)
Thanks, Gerda, italicized references to the individual works. Are you suggesting something like the following? Eddie891 Talk Work 19:09, 13 September 2021 (UTC)
- ALT1
... that the Altars for Peace were conceived by the woodworker George Nakashima as places "dedicated to the divine and peace"? - ALT2a
... that four Altars for Peace have been placed on different continents around the world? - ALT2b... that four Altars for Peace have been placed on different continents as places "dedicated to the divine and peace"?
- ALT3... that four Altars for Peace have been fashioned out of large trees to make tables "dedicated to the divine and peace"?
- Thank you for the suggestions! Striking two to make a choice easier, but suggesting a new combinations, thinking that of course different continents are "around the world" (waste of the little space a hook has to offer), and most altars are "to the divine" anyway:
- ALT4: ... that four Altars for Peace, fashioned out of large trees by George Nakashima, have been placed on different continents? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:24, 13 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt and Eddie891: The hook/quote for ALT2b (which I'd rather promote) is not sourced inline, and the nomination doesn't have a source on it either. Is the relevant source inaccessible? theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (they/them) 06:58, 14 September 2021 (UTC)
- There are other direct quotes in this nomination that have to be sourced inline also, if I'm not mistaken. theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (they/them) 06:59, 14 September 2021 (UTC)
- I hope Eddie can help to both. As said above I think it's so obvious that a peace altar is dedicated to the divine and peace that - quote or not - I'd hesitate to say that as a fact readers probably didn't know. The artist, however, and that they are made from old trees, are facts they probably didn't know, - at least I didn't ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:17, 14 September 2021 (UTC)
- Theleekycauldron directly sourced the quote, but I'd also be fine with Gerda's hook-- she does have a point that an altar for peace presumably has a divine component and is dedicated to peace-- the quote in 2b and 3 could seem somewhat repetitive. Eddie891 Talk Work 17:14, 14 September 2021 (UTC)
- All right, then I think we're good on ALT4. I'll promote it in a bit theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (they/them) 18:43, 14 September 2021 (UTC)
