1934 Muroto typhoon edit

The damaged Shitennō-ji temple after the 1934 typhoon
The damaged Shitennō-ji temple after the 1934 typhoon
  • ... that during the 1934 Muroto typhoon, regarded as the "second[-]greatest catastrophe of modern Japan", a then-world record low land-based pressure of 911.9 hPa (26.93 inHg) was observed?
  • ALT1:... that during the 1934 Muroto typhoon (damage pictured), a then-world record low land-based pressure of 911.9 hPa (26.93 inHg) was observed in Muroto, Japan?
  • ALT2:... that the 1934 Muroto typhoon was, at the time, regarded as the "second[-]greatest catastrophe of modern Japan"?

  • Comment: First hook is to provide a bit more of a "meaty" hook to readers to convey the significance of this typhoon (character count is 185, just within the general limit). Second and third hooks are a split versions of the first.

  • The 5x expansion in the 5 days prior to nom is confirmed, the article is well sourced, and I don't see any copyvio-type issues from sources, so the article appears fine. (I would consider making a map of the path of the storm since you can get that from one of the sources but that's outside the perview of DKY). QPQ is met. The hook's facts are sourced appropriately. My only bit of concern is on the wording of the first hook, with the "second-greatest" part without clarification makes it seem like it means up until today, though the claim seems to have been made in 1934. I don't know if this would still qualify as that, so the way the first hook is written is odd, but captured better in ALT2, though I really appreciate the pressure measurements that the first two hooks have. Perhaps "... that the 1934 Muroto typhoon was, at the time, regarded as the "second[-]greatest catastrophe of modern Japan" with record low land-based pressure measurements of 911.9 hPa (26.93 inHg)?" (that's just a few chars shorter); I think that wording implies properly that the measurements were "at the time" properly so that we're reflecting what assessment was made about the storm then, and not today. Also I would suggest the lede image as an image here for the hook, but that's optional. --MASEM (t) 20:25, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
  • I don't think the suggested hook works as it implies the catastrophe is directly related to the storm's pressure which is a bit misleading. If there's no way to include the "second[-]greatest catastrophe" bit, the record low pressure observation still suffices as an interesting hook by itself (ALT1). Added the damage picture as suggested. Thanks for reviewing this :) ~ Cyclonebiskit (chat) 22:05, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
  • If you are happy with ALT1, I'm fine with it from a reviewing standpoint, and would call this ready to post. --MASEM (t) 22:20, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
