Usage edit

This template cannot be subst'd, unless this is done before it is put inside <ref...></ref> (due to a bug in the <ref> and <references /> system). We don't want to subst it any way for reasons that become clear later.

This template is for creating a properly-formatted reference citation to the Billiard Congress of America's Billiards: The Official Rules and Records Book (2006 edition), very frequently cited in cue sports articles (see WikiProject Cue sports for more information). It is almost always used inside <ref name="BCA2006"></ref>. In most cases references to this source should be updated to the new edition annually (this would of course not be done for intentional citations to older versions of the rules, in articles about older games, etc.); thus, we do not subst it.

If you need to cite the same source in the same article more than once, use <ref name="BCA2006" /> for the subsequent citations. See {{rp}} if a specific page number is needed in subsequent citations, but this is usually not necessary, because we'll be identifying the very short chapter and the page range of that chapter.

If only one page or page range needs to be cited in this source in the article, which is the most common case on articles about games, simply add the page number(s) of the chapter (with "p." or "pp."), and the chapter name (in that order) as parameters:

Example:

Article text.<ref name="BCA2006">{{BCA 2006|pages=23-24}}</ref>

Produces:

Article text.[1]

In cases where the book is being cited in more than one chapter, simply omit both parameters, and use {{rp}} inline to identify the specific page(s) at each usage of the template:

Article text.<ref name="BCA2006">{{BCA 2006}}{{rp|pp. ix-x}}</ref>
