I recently altered Zelaya's status from 'deposed' to 'returning' on the grounds of his arrival back in his country. This edit has been reverted by an IP. I think it is accurate to describe Zelaya as the 'returning' president. He has returned 3 times now to Honduras since the coup, and is now located at the heart of his country. It is looking more and more likely that he will soon be reinstated as president, so he is in the process of returning to that office too. Meanwhile any claims about the legality of his ejection from the country are being made to look ridiculous by the way the usurper regime is trampling all over international law by besieging the Brazilian embassy. As an interim compromise, I think the formulation 'returning deposed' president sums up his current status well. Riversider (talk) 14:11, 24 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

That was reverted by me and reverted again. No power is being transferred to Zelaya. I don't think the discussion about whether or not he's the de jure president is relevant. He's not the de facto president. I think a compromise of "contested president" or something along similar lines would be better. I don't believe Zelaya should be made to look legally deposed, but it shouldn't look like his return to power is imminent. Your opinion on the matter is speculation. 80.101.129.246 (talk) 18:21, 27 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

You need to read the discussion on Mel Zelaya's article. The formulation 'returning deposed' is a balancing act to show the fluid nature of his current status. He has been deposed and is attempting to return, this is a process which is not completed, (and may not yet be completed) so you were right to point out that 'returned' is not correct, 'returning' does not imply he will return, the word 'deposed' also has an over-strong air of finality about it, he may not stay deposed. Your compromise suggestion 'contested' is accurate, pithy, and probably easier for the average reader to understand than my own, so it seems reasonable to go with that Riversider (talk) 15:57, 28 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
I'm glad we found a compromise. 80.101.129.246 (talk) 20:24, 29 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
