About This Article

It is difficult to find information on the internet for items 1996 and older. If a Google search does not turn up any info on something I feel it is time to post some information about it. Yes, a groups search on a specific term did get few results.

This X-10 drive is something I feel should be remembered. That is my inspiration and reason for creating this article. It hit the market when a replacement or improvement to the floppy was long overdue. CDR's and Zip drives were addressing this. 10 years later the floppy is still around and still slower than it has to be!

After all the hype of faster CPU MHZ speed computer enthusiasts are starting to pay attention to spindle speed and other factors affecting performance of the slowest device on the PC – Drives. This could have caused the X-10 failure No one cared how fast the computer read or wrote data- just how fast it crunched the numbers. Maybe the drive was just too late: 1996 Hard Disks and CD-ROMs where used much more often than floppy drives and prbably most people just didn't want to spend 100$ or 150$ just to replaye their normal floppy drive with a faster one, because they didn't use the drives often enough anymore. Btw, the X10 Ffloppy also used the X speed notation of CD-ROM dives. --MrBurns (talk) 13:07, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

This article is for historic purposes. This information is not easy to find. The main floppy disk article refers to this article and is already too long to include every single floppy disk variant and specific details of this device. Merging was already tried and decided to split the article off – see the history of the heavily edited Floppy Disk article that has even lost that discussion. The X10 accelerated floppy drive was the one of the few hardware devices dedicated to faster floppy access during the entire market reign of the slow drives. Grass growing was faster than floppy drives vs. the instant access world of today. Removing ‘stub’ graffiti as there are several references, a clear description of what the device did to improve a well known device, and the small niche market. Note it is an extremely rare item now due to the low production numbers. Also removing “Please help to establish notability by adding reliable, secondary sources about the topic” All info has been added including a published article and a direct quote directly from a designer. If you can find more info do so. Otherwise we are stuck with what little info there is on an obscure device that is notable for making an attempt to solve the slow drive problem.
