Size of field

313 pairs in 2010? Did i say that? Consulting the 13th World Bridge Series: results with schedule linked to detail results, now I find

5-session qualifier sizes: 250, 248, 246, 245, 240 [1]

5-session semifinal sizes: 182, 182, 180, 178, 172 [2]

5-session final sizes: 72 each (no dropouts) [3]

How many of 72 finalists share nationality? All except ranks 41, 36 (ex-co-national), 24, 21, 19.

For the World Women Pairs Championship, we/I said 31 entries.

5-session qualifier: 58, 58, 58, 58, 57 [4]

5-session semifinal: 46, 46, 45, 44, 43 [5]

5-session final: 36 each (no dropouts) [6]

All co-national except CAN-USA in ranks 15, 17, 29, 33.

2010 schedule. Days 5–7 of the teams events that begin earlier in the meet (9-day Rosenblum Cup, 8-day McConnell Cup) conflict with the first or qualifier stage of these pairs events; days 7–9 of the teams conflict with the second or semifinal stage of the pairs. Players who advance to day 5 and day 7 of the teams thereby qualify for the second/semifinal and third/final stage of the pairs (days 3–5 and days 6–8 in the pairs events). They qualify as individuals so they may "drop in" to the pairs in new partnerships.

Entry counts such as 313 for the 2010 World Open Pairs includes those who drop in. Given 250 pairs in this qualifier (details above), we may deduce that 63 pairs did drop in.

Using 2006 for illustration, I explained in the Results section of the article a few years ago. Long forgotten, and I didn't read yesterday. Some rearrangement of the article will help.

Nationality

That's a lot of flags. We do not yet show a transnational pair among 42 medalists 1962 to 2014. That is remarkable as entries are not officially national (although some have been sponsored by national bridge federations). How many transnational pairs are in the field and what is the best performance?

For the World Women Pairs Championship we show 1 transnational pair among 42 medalists. Mixed, 7 of 36; Seniors, 1 of 21.
