Flag edit

The table with the Karpov-Kasparov games in unappropriate: Next to Kasparov's name there is Soviet Union flag. Indeed the SU still existed by that time. However, Kasparov refused to play under this flag. Instead, he wanted the flag of Russia (not the one of the RSFSR but the white-bue-red one). Whether this flag was used or none at all I cannot tell. This is an interesting point. I'm not familiar with the details. I hope some others who are will comment so we can make any adjustments to the article needed. Quale (talk) 21:50, 19 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Kasparov talks about this on pages 83-84 of Kasparov vs. Karpov, 1988-2009. He played with a small Russian tri-color flag (red, white, and blue stripes). If this change is made in the article, there needs to be a footnote explaining it. Or there could be a section talking about it. Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 01:11, 20 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Excellent. That deserves an explanation in the body of the article. All of our World Championship articles could do with expansion, and I think this is exactly the thing that readers will be interested in. Quale (talk) 03:39, 20 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
He didn't want to play for the USSR - he thought it would cease to exist within a year. Of course, there was some controversy over that. Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 04:54, 20 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Very interesting! I did not know that either, but have changed the flag and added a "Controversy" section. dllu (talk) 07:14, 20 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
