Talk:Windermere Supergroup

New name edit

I have moved the article to a new title to reflect Wikipedia title guidelines - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#Article_titles.5BR.5D which supports proper capitalisation of proper names such as 'Windermere Supergroup'. The term appears in this fashion in authoritative publications such as The Geology of England and Wales (Brenchley et al (ed)) (2nd edn) published by The Geological Society. cheers Geopersona (talk) 05:55, 10 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Comparison to the Sinclair model edit

I've looked hard for any sources that support the comparison of the supergroup to the Sinclair model (as in the two final sections of the article) , but failed to find them (unless it's in the Kneller et al. 1993 paper that I don't have access to). This leads me to think that this is a case of OR, although the comparison makes sense to me. However, various sources suggest that the foreland basin proper did not start until the Silurian, reflecting intially just thermal subsidence of the Borrowdales to give the observed shallow water conditions, which would remove the 'Stage 1' comparison for the Dent Group. I would rather not have to remove those two sections, but I can't see an alternative unless a source is found for the comparison. Mikenorton (talk) 10:26, 31 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Table problem edit

The table at top right doesn't display correctly - can someone more familiar than I fix the problem? thanks Geopersona (talk) 06:58, 18 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Still an issue. thanks Geopersona (talk) 18:36, 24 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
What specifically is the issue that you're having - it looks a bit clunky to me but I can see and read all of it (even if the Ludlow, Wenlock and Llandovery could be clearer). Mikenorton (talk) 22:22, 24 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
The right hand of the two columns i.e. 'ORS cover' down to 'Dent Group' sits half outside the frame to the right and indeed, unless I adjust the scroll bar, which appears at the foot of my screen for this WP page but no other, then I cannot read it. Now it may be one of these browser issues - I'm no expert in these matters - but I'm using Firefox with Windows 10. thanks Geopersona (talk) 05:00, 25 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
I don't have that issue on my mobile phone in either mobile or desktop view, which is what I checked initially. On my laptop I get the same issue that you do, although I don't personally find it more than slightly annoying. The template was created by User:Smith609, so perhaps it's best to approach him and see if he can work out the problem and fix it. Mikenorton (talk) 11:18, 25 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Slightly annoying, yes - but worth fixing for the hordes who will now descend on this page ;-) after our recent work. Seems that Smith609 is no longer an active WP editor - I've placed a note on the template's talkpage though perhaps another avenue might be more fruitful. cheers Geopersona (talk) 13:21, 25 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
I've attempted to mess around with templates in the past and I realised pretty quickly that I had no idea what I was doing. Hopefully someone who does understand them will come along. The Wikipedia:Help desk could also be a place to ask. Mikenorton (talk) 16:11, 25 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
