why Mandel? edit

The article -- which originated as Mandel notation and was then redirected -- identifies the other eponyms, Voigt and Kelvin, but who is Mandel? The original's history doesn't say either. --Thnidu (talk) 22:21, 12 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

not jet complete and correct edit

This article mixes two similar, but different things. The Mandel and Voigt notation are two ways to make six element vectors from symetric 3 D matrices. This is mainly used for elasticity. In the part with the voigt notation there is the important part missing: With the strain, there is an extra factor of 2 for element 4,5 and 6. With the stress this factor of 2 is missing. There is also at least a third alternaive (Kelvin ?), of putting the factor of 2 into the stress vector. (91.3.118.24 (talk) 18:55, 21 August 2009 (UTC))Reply

Mandel versus Kelvin edit

In Kelvin or Voigt notation the order of the last three components of sigma is usually 23 31 12. Here the Mandel notation takes the order 12 23 13. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 132.168.8.217 (talk) 09:28, 7 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
