Binomial authority
editThe standard B&P author abbreviation used here is not certain: GRIN gives the binomial authority for V. popenoei as "J.H.Fennel" [John H. Fennell?]; however, this conflicts with IPNI and many other sources who cite "J.L.Fennell" (note the second 'l'), a botanist the Harvard Herbarium shows as being a Vitis specialist; Tropicos.org cites simply "Fennell" [Dorothy Irene Fennell]; there is also a standard abbr. for "Fennel" [Nikolas Fennel] (with one 'l', as GRIN has with the unknown-by-B&P 'J.H.Fennel'). Further possibly confusing the issue was the artist who originally drew this species was named "Leta Hughley", and the record at huntbot.andrew.cmu.edu shows her signature as simply 'L.H.'
- See: Harvard Herbarium Botanist Index; type in "fennel", and check off 'plant name authors.
