Scope of this article? edit
Hi, it's unclear to me which is exactly the scope for this article, as part of its content is redundant with the one in "General-purpose bomb". Can anyone please clarify?
Thanks & regards, DPdH (talk) 08:22, 4 October 2009 (UTC)

Sources? References? edit
Hi, this article is sorely unreferenced. Can the key contributors please provide verifiable sources and citations?
Thanks, DPdH (talk) 08:26, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
WRONG definition! edit
Hi All, IMHO the current summary paragraph's (if there is such) definition, which reads:
A gravity bomb is an aircraft-delivered bomb that does not contain a guidance system and hence, simply follows a ballistic trajectory.
is incorrect, as "gravity" (ie: what makes the bomb move) has nothing to do with "guidance system" (ie: what makes the bomb hit its target by making corrections to its trajectory). Where was this "definition" taken from??

Nomenclature edit
How about "free-fall bomb" or "unguided bomb"? This is the terminology that Ace Combat 4 uses. --RisingSunWiki 21:32, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
- As can be verified by the following links, the U.S. military uses the terms "unguided bombs" or "free-fall bombs", not 'gravity bombs'. So the title of the article should be changed.

Retarded Bomb edit
I find it very hard to believe that if they won't use the phrase "Dumb Bomb" but they would use "Retarded Bomb". Could somebody please track down the correct name —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.197.73.37 (talk) 16:32, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
- Trust me. That's the real name. Georgewilliamherbert (talk) 16:48, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
- It's an unfortunate name. It's not the predecessor of the dumb bomb but rather a bomb that is "retarded" (or slowed) in flight. Marcus Qwertyus 18:46, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
- You can't make this stuff up. I hope. JohndanR (talk) 16:54, 5 August 2017 (UTC)
Iron bomb? edit
Does "iron bomb" really mean the same as "unguided bomb", or is it equivalent to General-purpose bomb ? --GCarty (talk) 17:30, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
- An "iron bomb" is basically a more durable "unguided bomb" on the outside, but still works any other unguided bombs on the inside. Hansen SebastianTalk 09:49, 4 February 2021 (UTC)
Link to intellectual disability edit
It seems inappropriate to have the section on retarded bombs link to intellectual disability, since the word retarded is being used in a totally different context here. It also seems a little offensive. I'll remove it if nobody has any arguments for why it should be kept?

Yield? edit
What is the range of their yield sizes (kg/lb)? This article needs more development of basic information. 14.2.200.220 (talk) 05:14, 26 September 2022 (UTC)
