Hello, I am planning on reviewing this article for GA Status, over the next couple of days. Thank you for nominating the article for GA status. I hope I will learn some new information, and that my feedback is helpful.

If nominators or editors could refrain from updating the particular section that I am updating until it is complete, I would appreciate it to remove a edit conflict. Please address concerns in the section that has been completed above (If I've raised concerns up to references, feel free to comment on things like the lede.)

I generally provide an overview of things I read through the article on a first glance. Then do a thorough sweep of the article after the feedback is addressed. After this, I will present the pass/failure. I will use strikethrough tags when concerns are met. Even if something is obvious why my concern is met, please leave a message as courtesy.

Best of luck! you can also use the {{done}} tag to state when something is addressed. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs)

Please let me know after the review is done, if you were happy with the review! Obviously this is regarding the article's quality, however, I want to be happy and civil to all, so let me know if I have done a good job, regardless of the article's outcome.

Immediate Failures edit

  • It is a long way from meeting any one of the six good article criteria -
  • It contains copyright infringements -
  • It has, or needs, cleanup banners that are unquestionably still valid. These include{{cleanup}}, {{POV}}, {{unreferenced}} or large numbers of {{citation needed}}, {{clarify}}, or similar tags. (See also {{QF-tags}}). -
  • It is not stable due to edit warring on the page. -

General edit

  • The background should go into detail what the subject of the article is before saying "The match was..." Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 16:46, 1 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • More citations needed. All statements need inline cites. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 16:46, 1 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • If " A football match was chosen as the showpiece event as the way football brings people of all different nationalities together " isn't a quote, it's puff/NPOV failure. If it is, needs a source and quotes. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 16:46, 1 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • "The best of European football will be on show in Manchester next March to mark the 50th anniversary of the creation of the European Union. There is no better way to showcase the European Union at 50 than through Europe's favourite sport that unites Europeans in a unique way, through a passion we all share and a language we all speak." - this is a huge quote. Either break it up, delete or it's a copyright issue. Even if not, I don't really see how it's important to see all of this. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 16:46, 1 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Manchester United became involved in the project as they were also celebrating the 50th anniversary of their involvement in UEFA competitions, having first entered the European Cup in 1956–57 under the management of Matt Busby, who guided his team to their first European title in 1968 This sentence is huge! Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 16:46, 1 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • featuring players of various nationalities from some of Europe's biggest clubs[according to whom?] Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 16:46, 1 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • All of these quotes seem a little irrelevent. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 16:46, 1 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • I think the background could easily be expanded. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 16:46, 1 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • The image shows Old Trafford, which isn't mentioned at all in the background section, except in a quote. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 16:46, 1 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • We don't include prices on wikipedia, unless they are specifically expensive/cheap (and there is commentary to that effect). Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 16:46, 1 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Quite a few duplinks. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 16:46, 1 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • We don't link major geographical areas (Such as Germany). Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 16:46, 1 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • The whole official section seems like puff. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 16:46, 1 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Comments edit

  • Automated note - If you fancy returning the favour, I have outstanding GA nominations that require reviewing at WP:GAN. I'd be very grateful if you were to complete one of these, however it's definately not manditory. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs)
    • I've gone through the first few sections of the article, but it's very clear it doesn't meet the criteria. The match summary itself seems ok, but the rest needs significant work to give enough of an overview to be considered a Good article. I'll fail this one for now.
