Route Map edit

Just to say, I've started constructing a Route Map. Currently at User:Ronhjones/Sandbox - and before anyone says, all those bridges will not be included! Ronhjones (talk) 21:26, 26 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Merge edit

Is there any objection to incorporating the article Wedgwood Pottery In Stoke-on-Trent into this article, as a section? That article does not seem to stand on it's own, and seems like a significant phase in the canal's history. Jaywilson (talk) 15:30, 2 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

I think it would be better merged with Wedgwood, as you have suggested elsewhere. --Peter I. Vardy (talk) 16:03, 2 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
I went ahead and merged it here, because I think it has more information about the canal, and is more integral to the story of how the canal came to be. Also, because of the opinions expressed (including mine), two (Alan and me) were in favor of this move and one (Peter I. Vardy) was in favor of the merge with Wedgwood. But if anyone thinks they can merge it into the Wedgwood article more successfully, well, this is wikipedia. Jaywilson (talk) 20:58, 8 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

P.S. I realize the article that was just merged has some missing references and there are a couple discrepancies between that material and what was already here under History. But I think there is a really interesting story here and I hope that people more knowledgeable than I about the canal and its history will help clean this up. -- Jaywilson (talk) 21:28, 8 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Old Wharf Basin at Findern edit

Does anyone have any knowledge or information about the old wharf basin that once existed near Findern and opposite the site of the current Mercia Marina. Locally this place is known as Potlock. The basin is still in existence although overgrown and cut off from the canal. I'd like to include something about it on here, unless there is enough to justify it's own page.Boatgypsy (talk) 21:44, 7 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Flyovers edit

The article states "the T & M features one of the only two 'flyover' junctions on the English and Welsh network" and says that the other is on the Caldon Canal. Taking "flyover" to mean one canal over another, there are several more, e.g. where the Birmingham Old Main Line crosses the New Main Line at Stewart Aqueduct, and then crosses the Netherton Tunnel Branch Canal at Tividale Aqueduct. There is also the Engine Arm Aqueduct and the Barton Swing Aqueduct and probably others. Otherwise please explain "flyover".--Shantavira|feed me 11:44, 27 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

North Staffordshire Canal edit

This reference - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Cheshire_Salt_Works#cite_note-Saltscape-3 - tells us that the canal was originally the 'North Staffordshire Canal' - but I don't see this mentioned in the article. I'd certainly not come across it before - is that correct? Anyone have further knowledge? Is there a connection with the later acquisition by the North Staffordshire Railway company? cheers Geopersona (talk) 05:01, 4 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
