Why disambiguate? edit

I don't think this should be a disambiguation page - nobody calls the valley and region around the river "Timok" (In Serbian, the river is Timok and the region is Timočka Krajina). A note about the valley could be put on top of the article on the river, but nothing more. Disambiguating isn't needed and only requires further dab of pages that use Timok now.   → Тодор Божинов / Todor Bozhinov → Talk 11:36, 6 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

I fixed several links, mostly they point to Timok River now. But there are also links to Timok Valley. Timok is also a region, referred to in english as Timok region on several websites. There is also a magazine with that name.

I think changing links from Timok to Timok River increased precision of WP. In one article where I changed the link it was not 100% clear whether the valley or the river was meant. Now it is. Tobias Conradi (Talk) 00:37, 10 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

I mean the region is named after the river - just like there's Pleven Province named after the town of Pleven. If there was amgibuity in some article, it should have been made clear, not redirected to a disambiguation page. What do you think, isn't the river the primary meaning after all? My opinion is that the river should stay as Timok and all other meanings should be on Timok (disamgibuation).   → Тодор Божинов / Todor Bozhinov → Talk 08:39, 10 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • I didn't made redirects to dab page.
  • It looks as if the river gave the name to all the other stuff (Timok Khan - I don't know)
  • having the dab at Timok allows to find wrong links - i.e. no page should link here. if a page accidentely does so, we see it. if Timok is the river article we don't see accidental wrong links so easy.
  • there is some tendency to add "River" to river articles, unless the rivers are very well known (Danube, Nile,...) or there is nothing else with that name. WikiProject:Rivers.
  • maybe the dab page should say prominently what the most important meaning is?
