sentinel destroyed? edit

If I remember right,

but it ceases to transmit when the astronauts who discover it breach the forcefield.

isn't quite right, as rather it's that when they breach the force field (with atomic weapons, and some time after its discovery) they destroy the sentinel, which then obviously ceases to transmit. But it's been a while since I read the story, and I don't have a copy handy. Can anyone confirm? --BlackAndy (talk) 03:09, 17 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

For future reference, the relevant portions of the text are "It has taken us twenty years to crack that invisible shield and to reach the machine inside those crystal walls. What we could not understand, we broke at last with the savage might of atomic power, and now I have seen the fragments of the lovely, glittering thing I found up there on the mountain / It was only a matter of time before we found the pyramid and forced it open. Now its signals have ceased, and those whose duty it is will be turning their minds upon Earth" -Ashley Pomeroy (talk) 15:16, 30 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Re-wrote bits, cleaned it up generally edit

  • Got rid of some of the irrelevant bits about other short stories.
  • Combined Anthology heading with Publication History
  • Re-wrote the plot summary as it had lots of inaccuracies and bits in the wrong order.
  • Fixed some formatting of movie/book/story names, links etc
  • Added a picture of the first page when it appeared

Much better I think!
