Bowdlerisation edit

Is anyone else offended because of the bowdlerisation? If anything there should be a mention of similar activity going on with Tom Sawyer. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.233.23.23 (talk) 04:30, 10 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

I read the book as part of my Literature class in school in England. There were no comments about the use of the word 'nigger' whatsoever; it was just another word. The bowdlerization might be understandable if it happened in the 1960's. Now, it's unbelievable and panders to those who deliberately or mistakenly are maintaining the distance between people who have different colored skin. FWIW, I could identify as a racist because I believe in the superiority of my race. That race, however, is the human race.98.66.33.138 (talk) 05:17, 12 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
The publisher of the bowdlerised version, WordBridge Publishing is basically a one-man operation with most books being edited, translated, etc by the company owner, Ruben Alvarado. The whole thing smells like a publicity stunt designed to raise the profile of an insignificant company and shift more product. 87.115.26.231 (talk) 15:19, 3 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
I agree. I am going to remove mentions of that edition. The sources are primart and it does not seem notable, except as a stunt. Ashmoo (talk) 08:31, 4 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Ashmoo that edition is still mentioned in the History section, did you consider it notable enough to leave it in there? Garnet-Septagon (talk) 10:14, 29 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Incorrect summary edit

The summary is incorrect: Wait does not fall ill during the voyage, but arrives on board already ill with tuberculosis and has been ill on his previous ship. He shirks his duties from the outset. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nooc1 (talkcontribs) 16:58, 7 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

This seems to have been fixed @Nooc1: can you comment? UserTwoSix (talk) 18:28, 16 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
