Merge proposal

Although there are some significant differences in details (co-directors, running time), the articles Das Mirakel (1912 film) and The Miracle (1912 film) seem to be describing the same film. I imagine the English-language title would be the preferred location for the article, but the German-titled article is older. In any case, the merge should be performed by an editor who has enough familiarity with the subject to sort out the conflicting details.--ShelfSkewed Talk 15:46, 18 December 2012 (UTC)

Response to merge proposal

Hmm, trying to sort out the "conflicting details" are what led me to write the current article in the first place, and although there may be another "editor who has enough familiarity with the subject to sort out the conflicting details", I fear that someone called ~~~~ is going to be doing the work.

Sadly, most of the information about the Menchen film contained in Das Mirakel (1912 film) is nonsense, and appears to be based solely (apart from that last refuge of the lazy wikipedian, imdb) on the following article: Variety, 21 February 1913, p. 15. The date does not appear at the top of the page, the first page is here: Variety, 21 February 1913, p. 1.

From the source above, here is the first paragraph of the section headed 'The Miracle':

A public exhibition for the first time of the "talking" movies, the Kearton reproductions of "wild life and big game" and "The Miracle," a lyriscopic play in three acts and 15 scenes, all in two days, marks an era in the photoplay world. The "talkies" may not make much of a dent, the Kearton films are valuable from an educational standpoint, but the "Miracle," reproduced from the wonderful Reinhardt pantomime of the same name presented at the London Olympia, is probably the finest exhibition of the "Celluloid drama" ever conceived.

The inferences drawn from this as reflected in the Das Mirakel (1912 film) article are entirely incorrect, and (I believe) are fully explained and referenced almost unto death in the main article of this talk page.

In constrast, however, the section Das Mirakel (1912 film)#Second 1912 silent version about the Continental-Kunstfilm directed by Mime Misu is almost entirely correct, and I propose instead to expand that section to replace the entire article at Das Mirakel (1912 film), based on my rough draft at User:MinorProphet/Das Mirakel.
