If this painting represents the Immaculate Conception, then the figure is Anne, Mary's mother, not Mary. If the figure is Mary, then the subject is the conception of Jesus, the Virgin Birth not the Immaculate Conception. Two different stories.

One might logically think so, but see Marian_art_in_the_Catholic_Church#Immaculate_Conception. Apparently Mary as the Woman Clothed in the Sun is not subject to normal rules of time. Sparafucil (talk) 04:30, 8 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
I don't think the painting represents the act of conception. It's a representation of the already conceived and sinlessly grown up BVM. No need to belabor the point. The title is what it is. Pascalulu88 (talk) 17:33, 17 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
