"Strange Range"? The place is a dive, and the heart of activity in the increasing crime and drug problems plaguing Yellowknife. I can't believe someone had their wedding in that place. But besides my own biased opinion, it may be useful to have some quotes from The NWT Status of Women's council or Mayor (Van Tigem for the time being) concerning the Range's place in the town, or some information on permanent residents of the hotel or the $1,000,000.00 price tag, if anyone can find citations for these.

It should also state that it is located on what is (sadly) locally known as the 'gaza strip of the north.'

Gold Range Expropriation?

Revert changes deleting mention of April 8, 2013 council decision to go ahead with "purchase" of the Gold Range? It is obvious from the previous sources posted that the city intends to force the owners to sell. By definition this is expropriation! Let's call a spade a spadeBillturner1983 (talk) 22:55, 9 April 2013 (UTC)

This wiki definately sugar coats this place. And I feel that the article should be changed in a way to more acurately reflect the true nature of this establishment.

1) Mention the towel material permanently stapled to the tables to soak up spilled beer.

2) Mention the hords of the cracked out the frequently hang out front.

3) This is not the kind of "tourist atraction," you would bring your mom/ grandmother... Unless of course they are raging alcoholic sketchbags...

I brought my mother there and it was great -- and we aren't the "raging alcoholic sketchbags" you assume. She lives in Toronto and it was definitely a "new" experience for her!--Agnaramasi 03:32, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

Remembrance

eighteen years ago in thr winter of 1989-90, I traveled to Yellowknife to play with PaPa Spain and the Stampede Band at the Gold Range Hotel. What an experience. Thirty and forty below while we were there over the holidays. Pretty good money, about eight hundred a piece a week. Not bad for some hacks from Portland Oregon. Found out our singer was a phyco shoplifter criminal and had to fire her the first week there and reform the band. Luckily, a few good players around yellowknife, including Canadian legend Dave Boyer to help out. Sams place could be pretty routy and given its size could be almost overwhelming. We heard Sam could be a rough character, but he was good to us and servered us a good Christmas dinner to make for being away from home. PaPa just passed away at eighty one last week. My heart aches over his loss. One of the best fiddle playing buddies a friend could have and what a one of a kind type character Papa was. He was still playing locally till a stroke took him sudenly. Our trip to Yellowknife was the experience of a lifetime that neither of us ever grew tired of reliving and talking about. Heres to my pal PaPa and Yellowknife.
