The original developer of Rexdale, Rex and his wife Della's two sons Rex and Dale, would have been children in the 1950's when this area was started to be developed. W W 05:17, 6 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Proposed page move

edit

As per WP:CANSTYLE#Neighbourhoods, this article should be moved to The Elms, Toronto. In accordance with the guideline, however, the move is first being raised on the talk page. Skeezix1000 (talk) 15:14, 20 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

As the city of Toronto's website gives the official name of this neighbourhood as Elms-Old Rexdale, I believe it should be retitled as such. GTD Aquitaine (talk) 17:04, 28 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
There is nothing really "official" about that source. The City of Toronto has never official designated neighbourhoods or neighbourhood boundaries. The neighbourhood information on the City's website was done at a staff level, and doesn't have any official status - and a handful of the boundaries and neighbourhood names are a little dubious. Having said that, it is the City of Toronto website, and although the designation might not be official, it is a reliable source unless someone has reason to doubt the accuracy of the neighbourhood name in this particular instance (and I can't imagine there would be any such reason). It would be great if you found another source to show that Elms-Old Rexdale is the name in the "real world" as well, and not just a monicker used by a handful of bureaucrats. But even absent an additional source, I would support your proposed move. Jusr make sure that you conform to the style set out at WP:CANSTYLE -- the title should be at Elms-Old Rexdale, Toronto (no brackets). Or, given the uniqueness of the name, the title doesn't need disambiguation, and as per WP:CANSTYLE and WP:DAB, and can just be at Elms-Old Rexdale. Good luck. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 17:34, 28 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
