The interpretation in this article is highly debatable, as it makes several assumptions that exceed the evidence available in the novel itself. Particularly problematic is the interpretation of the old lady. For instance, there is no evidence that she even catches any fish, though she fishes all the time. So, while a kind of barrennness or empty seeking is at least apparent, it is too much to assume that she routinely catches, kills, and throws away fish. Thus, it is too much to assume that she is a source of evil, let alone an anti-Christ. All we are told in the novel is that she fished all the time, but brought no fish for the table.
