Release Dates edit

I know the first issue came out on Feb. 7 2007, but what about the rest of the issues? I think this would be useful info to add to the wiki, and I'd add it if I could find it! SnaX 15:04, 11 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

All fo the release dates arn't out yet Blu elph44 15:50, 11 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I added that they will come out in monthly installments, but this is uncertain as the announcement King's site is from 2005. In fact the sources are contradictory right now, one saying 6 issues and another saying 7 issues, so I went by the more recent one and what Blu elph44 said. Pomte 20:49, 11 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
there's 7 for sure. I have the first issue and it says 1/7 SnaX 23:54, 11 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Rename edit

Since the first issue is out and thus the title of The Dark Tower: Gunslinger Born is confirmed, shouldn't the name of this article be changed to reflect that? - Pennyforth 20:21, 9 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Is that the name for the entire series or just the first mini?--CyberGhostface 20:22, 9 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
The Marvel site seems to suggest that the series is in fact titled The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger Born with 7 issues. Pomte 01:59, 10 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Go fer it then... guess I need to hit the comic shop Monday. — RevRagnarok Talk Contrib 02:15, 10 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Daniel-son edit

I got this comic and there is a whole page of stuff written be "Ralph Macchio" and he is listed as a Senior Editor. Does anyone know if this is the Ralph Macchio of The Karate Kid fame? If so, it would be interesting to add to this article and his own article. --Mus Musculus 21:20, 24 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

He's not.--CyberGhostface 23:22, 24 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
True. See Ralph Macchio (editor). He began his career in comics well before his namesake hit it big in The Karate Kid, but of course the name similarity has plagued the editor ever since. In the late 80's, he was ofter referred to in print as "Ralph 'Not-the-Karate-Kid' Macchio". -- Pennyforth 13:20, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Dark Tower: Gunslingers edit

Isn't there also a 48-paged "Dark Tower: Gunslingers" special coming out from Marvel in April? See http://www.marvel.com/catalog/?book_id=6269 If so, would that info be relevant for this page? What's it about? 152.130.15.14 18:30, 27 February 2007 (UTC)DominicReply

I think its just a guidebook to the various characters, something Marvel does frequently. Not really notable for this article...--CyberGhostface 22:34, 27 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Okay. To me, it just seemed more notable than the Daily Bugle Special and those horrible Marvel Spotlight issues. The guidebook sounds like it has original Dark Tower: Gunslinger Reborn content. The others are just glorified adverts. 152.130.15.14 13:11, 28 February 2007 (UTC)DominicReply
Oh. If you mean adding it to 'related releases' then go ahead.--CyberGhostface 00:54, 8 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Unreleased issues edit

Is everyone in agreement that we need to add citations per WP:ATT if we add plot summaries of unreleased issues? An anonymous IP has been adding plot summaries and I cannot find any source for them. --Mus Musculus 14:36, 23 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

They're all solictations released by Marvel.--CyberGhostface 19:12, 23 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Are those copied directly? They look like copyvio. --Mus Musculus 19:17, 23 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

is this page strcktly about THIS series, or the whole chronicle edit

because if its about all of the other series too, then the name should be changed

I guess we should wait to see when the next series arrives before making a decision to make one big article or articles for different miniseries.--CyberGhostface 20:07, 22 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

The Long Road Home edit

The inside back cover of the last episode of the Gunslinger Born announces another mini-series title The Dark Tower: The Long Road Home coming out in February. Someone might think about starting a new page for it. 69.219.232.168 15:57, 5 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Read the last sentence of the Intro.  :-) Nightscream 18:02, 5 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Opening Statement edit

"The Gunslinger Born is a prequel to The Dark Tower series" - seems incorrect to me. I would class it more as an expansion of Wizard and Glass, as opposed to a true prequel. Everything covered in the comic was outlined in the novels. I changed it to "The Gunslinger Born is an expansion and interpretation of events covered in The Dark Tower series." Leafschik1967 01:10, 5 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

May I ask, when you say "outlined", do you mean that these events were depicted, or merely mentioned? Thanks. Nightscream 03:34, 5 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Roland tells basically the entire story to his ka-tet during Wizard and Glass. They are a type of flashback, but the details are all there. To me a 'prequel' would be additional material that would come from things not specifically mentioned in the original series. The comics are just a graphic interpretation of the events. Leafschik1967 23:34, 5 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
So when he "tells" the story, he tells it in third person, and the "scenes" do not depict the young characters? If so, and the main time frame of the novel series remains that of the adults, then it would seem accurate to me to call it a prequel. Nightscream 05:21, 6 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
No, he tells the story but the flashbacks are shown as actual events. Still, the series has been referred to as many times to a prequel to the series, and since events from The Gunslinger are in the first issue and the later arcs are independent of any prior source material, an expansion of Wizard and Glass isn't that accurate.--CyberGhostface 12:55, 6 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Depending on what the later series come out with, prequel might be appropriate for them - going into more detail about events such as Jericho Hill and the like. Those were only covered briefly with a few lines in the book itself. Gunslinger Born is not introducing anything that wasn't covered in the books. A prequel should introduce something new. Leafschik1967 14:35, 6 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think a valid criterion is how much of the novels depicted these events. If they are mostly set during the characters' adult lives, then the newness of the material doesn't have to be a criterion for the use of that term, or at the very least, not the only one. Nightscream 18:36, 6 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps. I just know that everything I heard about Gunslinger Born said 'Prequel' and when I picked it up, I was a little disappointed to find that 'prequel' was interpreted as 'Wizard and Glass flashback scenes.' Its a little misleading. Leafschik1967 01:46, 7 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sale figures edit

Is anyone familiar with how much the series as a whole or the individual issues sold? If so, please add this information on the article.--Ivo Emanuel Gonçalves talk / contribs (join WP:PT) 17:08, 10 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

I don't know, but why not ask Peter David? You can email him at padguy@aol.com. (Make sure you ask him for a documented source.) Nightscream (talk) 02:44, 11 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Marveldarktower.jpg edit

Image:Marveldarktower.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 14:44, 8 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Vandalism? edit

"Marvel's January 2007 issue of their monthly Daily Bugle newspaper featured The Dark Tower." This smells like vandalism to me. As long as I'm not missing anything, I'm quite sure the Daily Bugle is a fictional newspaper from Spider-Man... PedroFromHell (talk) 19:15, 30 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

I removed it, because even if it refers to some actual company newsletter or something, it's so vague that it hardly qualifies as relevant or notable. I mean, featured it doing what? Thanks for brining it to our attention. For future reference though, new messages and sections go at the bottom of the Talk Page. (And welcome to Wikipedia!) Nightscream (talk) 01:01, 31 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Alright, yeah I guessed there would be some truth to it, but vague is the word. Sorry about the section, I'll remember it for next time PedroFromHell (talk) 16:40, 31 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
