Corinthian

The plot summary describes the protagonist as "an accomplished Corinthian". My rough sense of Corinthian in this usage is a fashionable amateur sportsman and gamester, involving boxing, horsemanship, and cards. But it needs to be linked to a page discussing this terminology, or defined in the text.
