Place in Ellington discography? edit

I can't place this in terms of "next" and "last" in the Ellington discography because the Ellington discography at All Music is riddled with inconsistencies. This CD collection was released in 1990, but is listed in the master discography as 1932. If Ellington's albums were sparse, I might be able to guess where it falls, but under the circumstances that's pretty much impossible. I will try to locate a reliable discography elsewhere to solve this questions and, meanwhile, leave "next" and "last" blank in the infobox. --Moonriddengirl 20:47, 15 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

The problem, of course, is that this music isn't from albums. Strictly speaking this CD is from 1990. The music on it was recorded over a long period in the 1940s and was released on singles, not albums. The only way to really make sense of "next" and "last" is to put them in release-date order, which means 1990.
Another problem: there are two pages with almost exactly the same title and almost exactly the same content -- The_Blanton-Webster_Band and The_Blanton–Webster_Band. I don't know how to merge them. 216.231.46.147 18:01, 4 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hmm. That is a problem. :) The difference seems to be in the formatting of the title. Let me check policy on that to see which one should be the base page, and then we can worry about merging. --Moonriddengirl 18:04, 4 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
I assume the difference is an endash versus a hyphen. It's hard for me to distinguish the difference. I guess if it were an emdash, it would be very visible. MOS says "The en dash may be used in a page name, for example, Eye–hand span. Editors should provide a redirect page to such an article, using a hyphen in place of the en dash (e.g., Eye-hand span), to allow the name to be typed easily when searching Wikipedia. See also Wikipedia:Naming conventions (precision). Regardless of whether the page name includes a dash, the associated talk page name should match the page name exactly." Since I'm substantially the only editor on this version, I'd be perfectly willing to merge what I have into the other one, allowing this to stand as the re-direct per policy. There's no copyright issues that way. I think I'll get on that now. --Moonriddengirl 18:09, 4 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Done. --Moonriddengirl 18:35, 4 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Now, back to that first problem. :) Guessing where it falls in 1990 is problematic because there are four Ellington releases from 1990 listed in the AMG discography. Here's the compilations discography, and, boy, is it long. --Moonriddengirl 18:38, 4 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:TheBlantonWebsterBand.jpg edit

Image:TheBlantonWebsterBand.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
