RE: ""can't get it together to do anything...". One of the central themes is that the Chilean people are unarmed. They can offer no effective resistance to the military - the overthrow of their democratically elected government. When the people march and state: "Allende, arm us.." they ain't just whistling Dixie. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.188.131.189 (talk) 04:38, 24 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

An utterly embarassing description of the scope and intent of the film. Easily the best political documentary ever made. The structure of the film serves as a guidebook as to how a domestic ruling class, and its imperialist allies [the US] design and implement a reactionary, and violent strategy to overthrow a democratically elected government. A strategy repeatedly reenacted throughout Latin American, and now the Middle East. Without making too much of a stretch, you can also recognize elements of this strategy showing up in the American political system; especially in regard to the functioning of the mass media. This, and The Battle of Algiers, although not a documentary, are essential viewing for anyone seeking to gain an understanding of the functioning of political systems beyond simply making choices between tweetle-dumb and tweetle-dee every four years at election time.161.185.150.205 (talk) 22:31, 15 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

The language gives the Marxist away, and it also gave Allende away, just as the intention of the moviemakers is easily spotted. Still some interesting first hand footage. --41.150.234.218 (talk) 00:23, 31 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

ideological distortions in selective critical quotes edit

i removed the carping criticism by Paine Kael as it simply does not conform to neutral POV for wikipedia. Please note also the comment from 2015 attacking the politics of the film and the politics of the deported president of the country in one breath; this is well below editing standards. It may be fine in comments, here on the Talk page, but not in the article. Please do not revert. Actio (talk) 03:33, 16 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
