Date night reward edit

Should we put a special symbol in the results table for the team that wins the date night reward? Mylife2702 (talk) 01:41, 1 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

I am removing these symbols from the results table. The reason for this is that they have absolutely nothing to do with the results of the race. Everything else in the table has something to do with how teams fared on the race (FF, Yield, U-turn, Penalties), but the Date Night is a prize and belongs in the Prizes section. We can always list in the prizes section who won the reward. 184.70.8.70 (talk) 23:39, 24 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

New Icon for Active Route Marker tasks? edit

In more recent seasons, and especially in this one, there are tasks that are not detours, roadblocks, fast forwards, u-turns or speed bumps, which have been generically labelled elsewhere ss "active" route marker tasks. In each instance, the task is described in a Route Information Sheet, and has to be completed before teams received their next clue. )Example, the "Winter Winderland" task in episode 5. Would it make sense to at least use something that looks like the blue route info symbol in the list of locations of each leg to show (a) that there was such a task (especially since teams can receive a penalty for not completing the task) and (b) where the task took place? Theschnauzers (talk) 01:46, 4 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

No, because these are identified as "Route Info". Traveling to and from destinations are also listed as "Route Info", which would mean that every single entry on the itinerary would get a blue icon. I know that's not your intention, but then you get into a grey area where it's not clear where the line is. What's an active route marker task, and what's just a route info? Sometimes teams have to travel in 'interesting' manners to get from one area to the next, even though it's not really a 'task'. I think the way we handle things right now is fine. Shadow2 (talk) 04:49, 4 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
There's a distinction to be made between "route markers" and "active route marker tasks" that is evident from the description of a task in the clue retrieved by the Racers. Currently, these are described as "other tasks" in many of the episode summaries, but are not in any way shown in the location summaries at the head of each episode summary. It would be incorrect to say that the proposal for icons would be at every place a route info clue is given to the Racers, and that is not what I am suggesting. Theschnauzers (talk) 23:54, 5 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
Well first of all, I disagree with there being enough of a distinction. Detours and Roadblocks are distinct because they are identified as such. Active Route Info's are not (That's a Fan name). Additionally, think about it. In almost all seasons, what is listed on the itinerary will have either an existing icon, a travel icon, or this new Route Info icon. There will be maybe 1 or 2 places per season that would not have any icon at all. Especially consider HaMerotz LaMillion, where every single location that teams visit is paired with a task. That would quickly become needlessly excessive. Shadow2 (talk) 23:25, 6 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

U-Turn inside Race summary edit

Why is the U-Turn information inside the Race summary? That information is already in the table. If the U-Turn is left there, why not add "Which team did which side of the Detour" and clog the Race summary up with more stuff. I DON'T want to see this happen, so I think 1) the final paragraph in Leg 1 should remove "Mike & Rochelle plan to use the U-Turn on Jeff & Lyda, while Jeff & Lyda attempt to use the U-Turn on Jeff & Jackie, unaware that Jeff & Jackie had already passed the U-Turn." 2) the final paragraph in Leg 8 should remove "Matt & Ashley used the U-Turn on Jelani & Jenny, while Laura & Tyler U-Turned Aly & Steve"

Those were added in when we changed the whole format to this blocky paragraph structure, and I do not agree with it. Feel free to remove it. 70.68.71.94 (talk) 18:42, 25 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Edit Leg 11 picture caption edit

Leg 11 caption for the picture makes no sense. Someone smarter than me needs to figure out what the original poster wanted to say and edit the caption 184.10.177.195 (talk) 08:22, 9 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Little flag pictures edit

The little flag pictures in this article fail WP:MOSFLAG. They should be removed. bobrayner (talk) 18:40, 23 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Exactly how? Mind you, I'm fully aware where flag icons are an issue in other areas, but this seems to be an appropriate use since it is highlighting the countries the race progresses through and are additive to the existing country names. --MASEM (t) 18:49, 23 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
I don't agree with the removal. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 18:51, 23 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
Our manual of style says:

Icons should not be used in the article body, as in, "... and after her novel was published, Jackson moved to Bristol,   England, in April 2004." This breaks up the continuity of the text, distracting the reader

Whereas our articles on "The Amazing Race" are full of stuff like this:

Tokyo (Narita International Airport) to Phuket, Thailand   (Phuket International Airport)

Which takes a small amount of trivia and bulks it out with repetition and icons and brackets and bolding until it's a chore to read. Highly consistent across several articles, but still a chore to read. Won't somebody think of the readers? bobrayner (talk) 20:48, 23 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
The section you quote is titled "general article prose" (emphasis mine). These sections where icons are used are not prose. They are list/tables effectively. --MASEM (t) 05:00, 24 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

I truly denied with the flag removal and its much controversial. Every Amazing Race page has a flag in visiting country. ApprenticeFan work 04:47, 24 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

That exact quote from the MOS had been brought up before in the history of these pages, and it has always been shot down per Masem's reasons. Flags are not to be used in the middle of prose, or god forbid in the middle of a sentence. The flags are currently being used in a bulleted list, just like the list of participating countries on Olympic pages. Sure, our bullets have more information, but they're still bulleted lists. There have been multiple attempts to remove these flags, and they have all been defeated by majority and consensus. The flags will stay. Shadow2 (talk) 07:41, 24 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
There is also no reason for you to be removing the city names just because the airports happen to have the city name in their name. This makes the list look incredibly inconsistent and, frankly, unprofessional. Sure, it's redundant. But, you know what? Sometimes the world is a little redundant, and we deal with it.
