Other Modes and features edit

at some point i may try to create sections on some of the other features of the game. the main one that's missing is the bookcase/greed multiball feature. i'm not sure whether wiki is the place for details such as the Thing bonus or the 3way/4way combos - it might be too detailed for a generl wiki entry, best reserved for ipdb. I agree. We don't need a full rule sheet: the Pinball Wiki is better suited for that. What this and all of the rest of the pinball articles need is more "step back" information: information that is of use to everyone. I'm going to try to add some stuff to this article, as I think the best-selling pinball machine of all time should be one of the ones that we focus most on making an object lesson. Rewrite edit

I have created a first draft of a re-write here. It's not perfect and doesn't even have all of what I would like to include, but I think it's a good step towards what we might want a Featured Article pinball page to look like. I'll move it succeed the current article in a few days unless anyone has serious objections. Thanks, Fractalchez (talk) 23:01, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

No objections noted, rewrite used. I'd like to start getting feedback on this, so that we can soon submit it as a Good Article candidate. I've got a few more ideas for what to add to it and how to enhance it (I think another pic or two showing important playfield elements such as the electric chair and thing would be very helpful), but would like to get others' opinions before doing too much more. I think it's fairly inaccurate to state that Internet gaming was already becoming a viable alternative to arcade or even home console games as early as in 1992. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.92.19.204 (talk) 14:57, 9 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

While I'm not saying the torch had been passed just yet, the history of video games page here, starting specifically from the paragraph "The 90s also saw the beginnings of Internet gaming..." gives evidence for this. I'm not saying it was nearly as prevalanet as it was today, but that it was a factor. I can, alas, attest to many early-90s hours lost in the ancient world of Netrek myself. Still, if you can find any better wording for this passage, go for it. Thanks, Fractalchez (talk) 15:33, 9 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yes, but in this case they're talking about the latter half of the 90's. TAF came out in 1992 and went out of production in 1994. - Richfife (talk) 01:02, 8 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Fair enough. I remember the phenomenon existing and starting to take root even before then (I'll really reveal my age and reminisce about my mid 80's Compuserve days), but if my overall experience wasn't definitive then it's fine by me to keep the mention out. <TootingOwnHorn> I was one of the first programmers to work on Internet capable games. I adapted the Dark Forces engine to online play from scratch for Outlaws for LucasArts. This was 1996 (for a 1997 release). I had to invent the whole system from scratch because there was nothing to draw from, so I'm pretty familiar with the subject.</TootingOwnHorn> - Richfife (talk) 16:12, 8 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Transfer Credit from Midway to WMS Industries edit

I'd like to remove mentions of Midway from this page and replace them with WMS Industries. Williams had absorbed Midway's pinball manufacturing by 1992[1], and the game was released under the Bally brand, so I don't see where Midway comes into the picture. However, I don't want to take away credit if it is due, so if someone has a clarifying source, that would be ideal. Otherwise, this change seems to be in order. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kreidy (talkcontribs) 08:07, 4 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
