Peacock as the third single

It's written in the article that Firework is the third single off Teenage Dream. There's a cover that leaked at the internet from the Peacock single. (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_mupIVJbjvuU/TGX58StLmLI/AAAAAAAAF-0/l8Lri-8f33Y/s1600/Katy%20Perry%20-%20Peacock%20(FanMade%20Single%20Cover)%20Made%20by%20EriK.png) So I suppose that it will be released instead of Firework.

It states in the link that it's Fan Made. Is there a source other than the image that states Peacock as the 3rd single? Conalae (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 23:35, 6 September 2010 (UTC).

Firework is the third single, but Peacock HAS been confirmed as the fifth single from Teenage Dream though I don't know what the forth is. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.188.132.170 (talk) 01:06, 29 September 2010 (UTC)

Parental Advisory

The album has the Parental Advisory sticker. It's necessary to upload the cover with the sticker and include at the article about it.

  Not done, cover's without parental advisory stickers are preferred. -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 | talk2me 20:53, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

No problem. -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 | talk2me 00:10, 8 September 2010 (UTC)

Clean up

I have cleaned up the article, and deleted some unnecessary info like the "California Gurls" single cover shoot date. It should not be considered for deletion anymore. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mebarack (talkcontribs) 04:21, 16 May 2010

Evaluation request

It looks like the article has progressed nicely while in incubation. Circumstances have also progressed for it, so we now have reliable sources showing a release date. Is this article ready to go back to mainspace, or should it be discussed at Talk:Katy Perry? —C.Fred (talk) 20:23, 17 June 2010 (UTC)

I'd like to see some better sources discussing the album in more detail before it goes into mainspace. --Michig (talk) 20:55, 17 June 2010 (UTC)

Is there any other source for that tracklisting? It surprises me that only one relatively obscure retailer knows the tracklisting, and that makes me not trust it as much as I would from, say, Amazon.—Kww(talk) 01:25, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

The tracklisting has been confirmed. That makes it meet general practice for allowing an album article. Unless someone registers an objection, I will move the article to mainspace in approximately 24 hours.—Kww(talk) 18:50, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

About the cover

The cover was unofficial as a album cover but it was an official as a single cover for her upcoming single release, Teenaga Dream.

Hope you would not delete the file. Thank You in advance.

God Bless.

The album is supposed to smell like cotton candy. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.97.182.96 (talk) 18:26, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Move

This should be moved to Teenage Dream as no other album, or anything else at all, has this title, with Teenage Dream (album) as well as this page redirecting to it. When the second single, "Teenage Dream", comes out, it should be created at Teenage Dream (song). Yvesnimmo (talk) 16:44, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

why isn't there an article for teenage dream ?

You may as well make one.. the song went from # 189 to # 33 on itunes in 30 minutes..so it's going to chart.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rtrr34v (talkcontribs) 18:40, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Original move proposal

Teenage Dream (album)Teenage Dream — Just like Britney Spears's Baby One More Time. This article should be renamed to "Teenage Dream" only, and link to the title song in this page. Please blank the Teenage Dream article first! Silvergoat (talkcontrib) 17:01, 24 July 2010 (UTC)

Second move proposal

Teenage Dream (album)Teenage Dream (Katy Perry album) — Because there is not only an album named Teenage Dream. Silvergoat (talkcontrib) 09:45, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

Agreed --Usien6 (talk) 21:36, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
  • Oppose. Is the average reader, looking up Teenage Dream (album), more likely to be looking for the IQU album or the Perry album? It's impossible to predict the future, but it stands to reason that the Perry album will prove to be the primary subject. —C.Fred (talk) 18:18, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
It seems unlikely that anyone is ever going to search for 'Teenage Dream (album)' at all. Most likely they'll search for 'Teenage Dream' which will take them to the disambiguation page, where there should be a link to Teenage Dream (Katy Perry album).--Michig (talk) 19:06, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
Unless the Perry album is the primary topic for Teenage Dream. In that case, searchers for the Perry album are already there, and everybody else can follow the hatnote to the disambiguation page. —C.Fred (talk) 19:08, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

nth studio album

I see an edit was made today changing it from the third to the second studio album, though it was quickly changed back. It seems fitting to mention a parallel situation here:

Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie is the fourth album and second internationally released album by singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette

In Morissette's case, her first two albums were released in Canada only, so it's easy to make a distinction on country of release; however, she's listed as just Alanis on the first two albums.

In Perry's case, the clear distinguishing factor is real v. stage name. If this issue comes up again, is it worth changing the lede to say "third studio album (and second released under her stage name)" or some other similar wording? —C.Fred (talk) 04:22, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

It already says "It will be her second mainstream pop album".—Kww(talk) 04:39, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
So it does, two sentences further on. That works by me. —C.Fred (talk) 04:41, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
This sounds a bit flowery to me. Why don't you just make things clearer and say that "It is Perry's third studio album and follow up to her breakthrough mainstream album One of the Boys". The way things are worded at the moment, it appears to devalue the nature of her poprock/Christian album and though granted it was not as successful it is still a studio album of hers making this her third overall album. --Lil-unique1 (talk) 02:24, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

Katy has spoken about this being her second studio album (the Rolling Stone article), and her first wasn't widely released, wasn't available for long and she wasn't signed to the label for long. Overall, this should say Teenage Dream is Katy Perry's second mainstream (third overall) studio album. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.121.57.101 (talk) 23:40, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

That doesn't changed the fact that her first album is a studio album. --Shadow (talk) 22:59, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

Cover with or without text

Currently a small debate about the cover is on-going. Althought Katy Perry did specifically say that she wanted to release the album with the cover but NO text. However EMI music have confirmed both covers with and without text for release... here and here. I suggest that the most sensible thing to do would be to remove the cover until the album is actually released the cover can be replaced once the album is released. In the event that that both versions of the cover with and without the text are released, the cover WITH the text should be used because it is easier to explain that a version without the text was released also. --Lil-unique1 (talk) 20:53, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

Ah, no. The cover w/o text was first released by her website. TbhotchTalk C. 21:00, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
Yes but you can't deny that her record label has confirmed both covers... and therefore since we have two equally reputable sources - both official its a bit of a stalemate. In the interest of verifiability it would be sensible to wait until release. --Lil-unique1 (talk) 22:08, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
It would have nonsense removing a cover when this is confirmed. If the cover with text is released, the currently cover should be removed, and if both are released, both covers may go. TbhotchTalk C. 22:13, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
Fair play. I've just seen that the cover without text is the one being used on US/UK iTunes for its preorder. So I suspect the one with text would be used internationally. If that is the case the one with the text should be included in the infobox as it is easier to explain that "in the US/UK the cover has no text" than it is to explain that "outside of the US/UK the cover features red bubble text with a blue outline and the title 'Teenage Dream' is written in candy cane font-style." does that kind of make sense? --Lil-unique1 (talk) 01:33, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
you have good point. cover with text on should be used. it's much easier to add to article "in the US/UK the cover has no text". we'll see at end of month which cover will be official internationally, and which in US/UK. IMO cover with text on should be in article.--SveroH (talk) 09:48, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
I would have said that the cover with no text was the 'official' cover, as it is the one being used for the iTunes pre-order and US/UK releases, and was revealed first, as the official cover, and is also the cover that Perry herself supports. The international release/alternate could be also added underneath, alike her debut's alternate international covers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.172.97.94 (talk) 20:23, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

E.T. Length

I think that the time on the tracklist should be removed if it is based upon the leaked version of the track. We have no confirmation that it was the finished version, and the finished track could vary in length. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.172.97.94 (talk) 19:41, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Well, now we have the official length. It can be re-added if it hasn't been already.--Apeaboutsims (talk) 07:59, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

Promotional Singles

Hey Guys,

Just a thought. As "Not Like The Movies" was released as a promotional single, and charted on 3 major charts (Hot 100, Digital Songs and Canadian Hot 100, and possibly more), It's eligible to have it's own page. If we can find information similar to what was used in the "Ur So Gay" article (and possibly more), it should have it's own article. Then the same should be done, when (and if) the charting information for "Circle The Drain" and "E.T." get listed. Thoughts?--Apeaboutsims (talk) 07:59, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

I think it's able to have it's own article right now. We can make a perfectly structured article with the information we have--Morgan3136 (talk) 08:50, 19 August 2010 (UTC)
No we can't. Article's have to be detailed which such articles should be. If you look at "Speechless", any of Perry's promotional singles are NOT as notable. -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 (talk2me) 18:44, 19 August 2010 (UTC)
Note also that Eminem and Black Eyed Peas promotional singles were NOT given articles. -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 (talk2me) 18:45, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

Songs that have charted are notable to have their own articles. Example: Oral Fixation by Shakira. Many of the songs from it were promo singles and were given their own articles because they charted. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cprice1000 User:Cprice1000 () 20:51, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

You're mistaken. WP:NSONGS says that "songs which have charted on at least one national chart, that have recieved notable industry awards, independent coverage and/or have been covered by several notable artists. Notability aside there must be sufficient detail to make a sizeable and detailed article. -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 (talk2me) 21:51, 19 August 2010 (UTC)
I don't agree with Morgan. There is not enough Information. But yes, Speechless isn't even a single and it has an article. Look at Britney's "Just Begun Having my Fun", it has it;s own article. Add that type of Info, plus the charts, and we can have this article.--Apeaboutsims (talk) 10:12, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

California Gurls Edit / Cover

  • I just noticed that the line "I wish you could all be california gurls," was removed from the song. Should it be noted because of the supposed lawsuit? Cover, text vs. no text

Ok lets get this sorted once and for all because there's already been disagreements over it. Album covers are non-free media i.e. they are not available freely to the public. Per non-free content criteria multiple covers cannot be used for the following reasons:

  • 3a. Minimal Use, Multiple items of non-free content are not used if one item can convey equivalent significant information.
  • 8. Contextual Significane, Non-free content is used only if its presence would significantly increase readers' understanding of the topic, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding.

Under these rules both the cover with text, and the cover without text CANNOT both be used in this article. Now from my understanding both versions were released:

Therefore its evidence that neither cover is really more preferred than the other though you could argue that perhaps the cover without text is used more. However in the interest of explaining the situation properly the cover with text should be used in the article because it is easier to explain that in some regions a version of the album is available where the cover features no text. However it is much harder to explain that in some regions a cover with text stylised in 'xyz way' was released. -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 | talk2me 14:29, 17 September 2010 (UTC)

I think Lil-Unique has it right: there's no justification for both covers, and it's a lot simpler to explain the lack of text on some editions than attempt to describe what it looks like.—Kww(talk) 14:34, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
I agree, it makes more sense to do it this way.--PeterGriffinTalk2Me 14:37, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
  • Under criterion 8, the version with the text should be included in the article, because omission of it would be detrimental. As noted above, it is beneficial to the reader (more efficient and clearer) to show how the text appears on the cover than to try to explain how the text appears. Conversely, the version without text can be explained simply by referencing the with-text image and saying "an alternate version of the cover was released that features no text whatsoever, only the image of Perry on the clouds background" or somesuch. Accordingly, I support including the cover with text, and only the cover with text. —C.Fred (talk) 14:48, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
The cover without text is not an alternate version though. In fact, the only times I have seen the album with text on it is for international releases, and those are very limited themselves. The no-text version is more common and I feel just it should be used. --Shadow (talk) 14:54, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
Is there something about international releases that makes them of lesser importance than domestic releases? How would you explain the difference in a way that gave the reader a clear image of the difference without using a second image?—Kww(talk) 14:58, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
The fact that the UK's (top five biggest music markets in the world) second biggest supermarket is selling the album with the text cover and that much of Europe is speaks volumes. How do you then justify any explaination of what the cover 'with text' looks like? Notice how in my explanation of the situation i have nowhere said that either cover is an alternative. -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 | talk2me 14:59, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
  • The covers are identical but for the text. If the non-text one has more physical releases than the text one, I still fail to see a reason to include the non-text one. It's not like somebody is going to get confused that this isn't the same album as the non-text one. Come on. People are a *little* more intelligent than that, on average. We only need one, and the one with text is plenty sufficient to convey encyclopedic meaning. --Hammersoft (talk) 15:01, 17 September 2010 (UTC)

Everyone raised valid points. But, we should use the one without text, Katy is an American artist, her main territories are Canada and the US, both regions were released without text, only internationally received text. Either use the one without text, or use both. - (CK)Lakeshade - talk2me - 20:08, 17 September 2010 (UTC)

Nothing in NFCC references anything at all to do with the main territories of an artist. This has to do with providing the clearest explanation without overuse of copyrighted images, and nothing at all to do with where a particular cover was used.—Kww(talk) 00:52, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
  • IMO, it pass Fair use rule #8, though both covers are the same -and I'm not a fan of doing that- not in all countries the untexted cover were released. Like in the Fame Monster, both cover would go, both covers were released at the same time and in different countries. TbhotchTalk C. 20:15, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
  • The cover with text should be kept. If I'm not mistaken, that is the more common version worldwide. A caption can be added stating that North American versions do not have any text on the cover. –Chase (talk) 23:01, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
  • WP:NFCC#3a and WP:NFCC#1 apply here, so only one cover is required. It can easily be stated that the other one does have/doesn't have the text if that's really necessary. (Since that statement is in prose, which is free, NFCC#1 applies). But only one cover is clearly indicated. I would go with the text cover, as it's clearly easier to say an alternate cover is missing something which the reader can see. Black Kite (t) (c) 06:24, 20 September 2010 (UTC)
  • WP:NFCC#3a strongly applies here. I would add the cover with the fonts on it, seeing that it is the worldwide released and major cover. — Legolas (talk2me) 05:52, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

Composition

Removed this from the article, but posting it here just in case it's needed at a further date.

One of the biggest influences of Teenage Dream and the career of Katy Perry were the band Queen and singer Alanis Morissette.[1] Since the beginning of the recordings "Perry said that its compositions are more mature and honest about the songs of One of the Boys.[2] In an interview with Associated Press, the singer commented that she reserved the details of the album for her and not for interviews, as used to do, saying that her perspectives have changed. She also noted that the musical genre on her second album would be like a fusion of "Lovefool" from The Cardigans with "The Sign of Ace of Base," to make people feel willing to join hands to skate."[3] "When I left on tour, I felt I was missing songs to make people go up and down. I love the feeling when everybody is jumping together," she told HitFiz.com about to the new style that she would produce.[4] The group ABBA and the Madonna's song, Into the Groove ", were also influences on the new album. Perry also commented on the musical style of her album in an interview to Nylon Magazine, stating that music would not be "so annoying" about the past, saying that would be the new Alanis Morissette at Market Music in 2010.[5] During the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards 2010, Perry had revealed that she had been strongly influenced by the music of the 1990s and Cyndi Lauper, calling their work "guilty pleasure".[6] According to the singer, her new songs "explore their faith, confidence and admiration of the supernatural world" and that "while entertaining, they have content and were not made just for parties."[7][8]

Album cover art

Does there really need to be that much information is in the infobox? Shouldn't the information be somewhere else and shorted in the infobox? Jayy008 (talk) 21:20, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

If the cover image hadn't been such a contentious issue, it probably could be pushed down. Because it's been such a source of controversy, it needs to be mentioned up high. I suppose it could go into a comment in the infobox, though, so it would be noticed by anybody attempting to change the image. —C.Fred (talk) 21:34, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
Couldn't all that information be written in the "Artwork" section? And in the caption for infobox simply put "International cover?" Jayy008 (talk) 21:37, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
And actually the deluxe edition CD can be bought from ASDA in the UK with text on the cover so its incorrect anyway. However the captions do need to remain. I do question all of the genres though... are they all acutally mentioned by critics? -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 | talk2me 23:25, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
You're right. They're all pretty much subgenres of pop, anyway. Boldly removing. Yves (talk) 23:28, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
Pop is the only consistant genre on every song. Individual songs (per the music /composition section) have their own genre elements or features. As a whole, the album has only been called pop. -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 | talk2me 23:30, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

Third album?

I really don't understand why Katy Hudson is considered her first album. Can somebody explain it to me? I know she released the album before, but why is it considered an album by Katy Perry? ΣПDiПG–STΛЯT (Talk) 01:04, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

A change in name does not change the artist. Yves (talk) 01:05, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

Text on Cover

On the main page underneath the album artwork, it says that the covers with the "Teenage Dream" lettering are not sold in the North America. However, this is not true. I am from Illinois and I went to Target (a department store) the other day and the albums with the lettering were available in full stock. Basically, the versions sold inside the jewel case had the lettering while the ones sold in the paper case with the cotton candy scent were sold without the lettering. I think this description underneath the album artwork should be removed or altered to say something along the lines of "some parts of North America". Jpagan09 (talk) 23:49, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

Yeah I just noticed this the other day at Target myself. And the caption was correct. The album didn't feature lettering at first. However, we need to find out a way to properly cite and explain this conundrum. --Shadow (talk) 16:45, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
Luckily I was in the shops earlier after I came across this issue. I believe the case (mind the pun) is as follows:
I figured as such. I just think the article should accurately say that discs in soft panel cases, from Barnes and Noble, and digital copies do not contain the text where jewel cases do. Essentially, readers should no the text depends on what form they are buying the disc and not necessarily where. Thanks. Jpagan09 (talk) 06:36, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
