Untitled edit

There is a contradiction in this article. First: Formed from the union of the Aksu River and Yarkand River, it flows in an eastward direction around the Taklamakan Desert. Then: The Tarim River is formed by the confluence of the Kashgar River and the Yarkand River in the far west. That would mean that the part between both confluences is either Tarim (according to the latter) or not (the first). Any sources? Fransvannes (talk) 20:06, 18 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

U.S. Board on Geographic Names supports the version in the lead. The second version is also wrong in that there is nowhere near 230 miles between the Kashgar and Aksu confluences, eyeballing it on a map it might be 20. Should keep the Kashgar mention though. Made an attempt at fixing that. Kmusser (talk) 21:14, 15 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

New ref edit

Here's what seems to be excellent reference for this and related Tarim basin articles. [1]
