Should Tar_(Azerbaijani_instrument) be merged into Tar_(instrument)? Or is the Azerbaijani tar different enough to merit its own article? Mike Simpson (talk) 00:20, 21 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

No, there is significant difference in sound and the language accompanying the type of Tar and when the language is different, the type of Muğam/مقام is different too. There is a difference between Azerbaijani Muğam and other types of مقام. For example in Arabic, Quran which can be read in مقام never should accompanied by any instrument but in Classical Arabic Music, they use instruments. This is true for other types of maqam too: like Central Asian and Iranian maqams. So type of Tar is different according to which maqam they are used in. For example they never use regular Tar for Azerbaijani Muğam. They always use Azerbaijani Tar.
