harpsichord continuo
editAs I've mentioned on an editor talk page, there seems to be a lot of debate about continuo in these symphonies. See [1] and [2]. Its true that Robbins Landon supports the use, but if hard-core period instrument conductors like Harnoncourt and Hogwood are omitting the harpsichord, then I'm thinking there must be some musicologists on the other side.
For this particular symphony (#7), I don't hear any harpsichord in the Ward and Fischer recordings. I'm pretty sure Fischer omits the harpsichord for his complete set. For an example with harpsichord, there's Pinnock.
There's an additional issue as to whether this discussion should be moved somewhere else. The use of harpschord continuo would be relevant to a large number of Haydn symphony pages.DavidRF (talk) 19:32, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
