Arrow side; other side. edit

"4. ... The symbol is placed on the arrow side or other side of the line to indicate which side of the joint the weld goes."

There are two possibilities. The side of the weld closest to the arrow on the work is described on the side of the reference line closest to the arrow in the symbol. Alternatively, the near side of the work is always described above (or below) the reference line, regardless of how the arrow slopes? Can the ambiguity be removed?
