Speckled Band Snake

edit

Holmes refers to the snake that killed Roylott as a 'swamp adder.' Baring-Gould's annotated Holmes collection (1992 edition) discusses a debate over the snake's identity and the possibility of Julia Stoner being killed by a different species than Roylott but Holmes (as written by Doyle) himself considered the two deaths the same. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MeDrewNotYou (talkcontribs) 00:50, 30 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Here's the relevant quote from the story:

“It is a swamp adder!” cried Holmes; “the deadliest snake in India. He has died within ten seconds of being bitten. Violence does, in truth, recoil upon the violent, and the schemer falls into the pit which he digs for another."MeDrewNotYou (talk) 00:59, 30 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
