Popularity Results

What about using Popularity results on Wiki? Why don't you want to use A LOT of information of Survivor on Wiki? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.32.1.34 (talk) 20:59, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Number of episodes

I updated the number of episodes to 206, which is actually less than the previous number that was there. I did this by looking at the number of episodes for each season, adding them up and then adding 1 for Micronesia's premiere.

I found:

  • 6 seasons with 13 episodes = 78
  • 8 seasons with 14 episodes = 112
  • 1 season with 15 episodes

Total = 205 for first 15 seasons. If there is something I'm missing, please let me know. -- BullWikiWinkle 17:36, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

  • It could be "America's Tribal Council." Thats probably what youre looking for. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.252.4.81 (talk) 20:42, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
Recap episodes! They generally haven't contributed to the episode count on each season article, so should they be included in this? Or either? -- THE DARK LORD TROMBONATOR 08:32, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

I would consider recap episodes as an episode of that season. Why not? Whitestorm17 (talk) 21:06, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

Comment in the table for number of episodes indicates totals from cbs.com episode recaps. (i.e. http://www.cbs.com/shows/survivor/season/12/episodes/ and you can change the number in that link to get to any season from 1 to 26) However, when looking back through this site (using the last episode number for each season as the season total episode count), the total I came up with was 348 for seasons 1-25, plus 8 so far for season 26 = 356. There were 8 seasons which had a total number of episodes 1 less than the count in the wiki page for that individual season (this could be discrepancies due to recap episodes). Each individual season indicates a count that includes the recap episodes, but not the reunion show since that is effectively part of the last episode, and these all add up correctly given that strategy. As an aside, Gabon is the only oddity, in which the 1st episode was 2 hours long and cbs.com lists it as 2 separate episodes for their recaps, so if you count it as 2, then the season total of 14, including the recap episode, is correct. Anyhow, summing the number of episodes from each individual season's wiki page, you get 356 for seasons 1-25 plus 8 so far for season 26, for a total of 364 (as of Apr 8, 2013).

For reference, it appears there have been 13 seasons to feature a recap episode through season 25.

I would say the total should be consistent with the sum of each individual season, and not based on the count on the cbs.com recap pages since those seem to be inconsistent. If so, the current total should be 364, with episode 365 occurring on Apr 10, 2013. Does anyone else have thoughts on the methodology to use, and if this method makes sense? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Erdrick42 (talkcontribs) 20:44, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

List of U.S. Survivor seasons

A lot of the info in that article is duplicated from info here. This article isn't particularily long, and neither is that article, so I think the two could easily be merged. -- Scorpion0422 23:27, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

I agree, a lot of the information is doubled, and the information can easily be found in the individual season articles (such as the tribe) Definate merge Survivorfan101 (talk) 07:04, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

Seasons 19 and 20

According to www.topix.com, Jeff Probst has signed on for the show's 19th and 20th seasons. I'm not sure whether it's a reliable source or not, so I didn't create pages for these seasons, but since they got the "on the equator" right, it might end up to be true. Is it a reliable source? RaLo18 20:21, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

I recall that Probst had formerly been signed up to the sixteenth for a while, yet we didn't make those articles until the application came out, which is how and why we have pages for 17 and 18. Although the information on the topix site originally comes from USA Today (I think that's reliable; I'm not from the States), we should follow the same inclusion criteria here. -- THE DARK LORD TROMBONATOR 08:04, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
So we'll wait...RaLo18 13:14, 14 May 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by RaLo18 (talkcontribs)
Jeff Probst is signed on to host the seasons 17-20, but only if they happen. The 17th and 18th are the seasons that CBS has confirmed will happen. If Survivor drastically falls in popularity during those two seasons, it can be cancelled before a 19th season. OldestManOnMySpace (talk) 11:03, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Why was this renamed?

According to WP:NCA, 'U.S.' is correct - not 'US'. -- BullWikiWinkle 19:23, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

It also says that, while both correct in their own rights, U.S. is preferred not only on Wikipedia but in American English. I'll revert the move. -- THE DARK LORD TROMBONATOR 20:36, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

DVD Release

Is there any reason that the 3rd through the 6th seasons are not on DVD? Thanks for your response. -Frankie D

Not that I know of. I'd assume CBS thought they were boring or something. -- THE DARK LORD TROMBONATOR 20:21, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Season vs Challenge

To vast majority of people who have never seen an episode of Survivor, and who have seen none of the insider discussions, e.g. Entertainment Weekly or TV Guide, the use of the word "season" in this article was completely misleading and confusing.

The article said, "CBS has ordered an eighteenth season and Probst has signed a contract to host the show through its twentieth season." The article also said, "Each U.S. network television season starts in late September and ends in late May..." which is how most native speakers of American English use "season". The result is that most people would read "CBS has ordered an eighteenth season..." to mean that the first Survivor was broadcast in 1990, two years before it was created in Sweden.

So I followed Wikipedia guidelines to "edit boldly" and changed this article to reflect common American English usage. I used "challenge" to indicate each Survivor series.

Nick Beeson (talk) 16:43, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

I changed it back, though I understand your concern. The word "challenge" has a distinct meaning in Survivor. "Season" is a word that CBS uses and Jeff Probst has used, so calling each Survivor a "season" would be correct. Instead, a better change would be to use "television season" when referring to the normal television season of September through May and leave the individual Survivor run as a season. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 18:15, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
I tried again to clarify the meaning of "season". This article states that the number of viewers is only 18% of the population of the United States. It is an even smaller fraction of the English speaking users of Wikipedia.
To say "'Season' is a word that CBS uses and Jeff Probst has used" merely highlights the fact that to the vast majority of the readers of Wikipedia in the context of a television series "season" means a "television season". In all other contexts when we read that "CBS has ordered an eighteenth season" it is correct to assume that the show was first broadcast 17 years before that statement was written.
I suggest that this article needs to make this idiosyncratic usage of "season" clear. Otherwise it will be misleading to the majority of Wikipedia users.
Nick Beeson (talk) 11:13, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Survivor: Religion

Is it possible CBS would air a Survivor broken up similarly to that of season 13 with the tribes being separated on religious grounds? (A possile separation could be Judaism, Islam, Christianity, and atheism.) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.224.36.159 (talk) 22:36, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

Don't know. It would be interesting, but highly controversial. For that reason, probably not, considering the response they got when they divided the tribes by race

Charlie Parsons & Mark Burnett

I wanna clear something up in the table that appears at the bottom of the article. Are Parsons and Burnett co-creators, or is Parsons creator and Burnett is producer? There is a difference between creator and producer, right? 68.78.1.181 (talk) 02:53, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

Shouldn't the logo for Survivor in the infobox be for the current season, Survivor: Samoa? Wasn't Borneo the first season? —Untitledmind72 (talk) 14:12, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

The article is about Survivor as a whole--not the most current season. That said, the logo in the infobox looks generic because it does not mention a specific season (even if it was used for a specific season). -- BullWikiWinkle 23:09, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
It also happens to be the most generic logo and well-represents the entire series. --MASEM (t) 23:12, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

Couldn't you use the generic logo. You know, the one which has the orange-yellow star-like thing with the torch. This has no affiliation with any particular season and is used by CBS to mark Survivor merchandise TheTribeHasSpoken (talk) 07:40, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

Table of logos

I feel it is excessive to include logos for every single season on this page. I removed them once, as they are NFC, but they were added back again. What is the rationale for their inclusion other than being decorative? Per NFCC #8, I do not believe that leaving them out would be "detrimental" to understanding. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 18:27, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

It is clearly a violation of NFCC, their use here being akin to including every album cover in a discography. On the individual season pages, its ok, but not here. --MASEM (t) 18:34, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

New table for seasons -- column width

The new table for seasons could use some reformatting. I suggest narrowing the second & third columns (Name & Location) and using the extra width for the Notes column at the end. -- BullWikiWinkle 11:20, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

What's the accepted practice of when to add the upcoming season info to the page? Should it be added to the list of seasons now and updated as more info becomes available, or do we wait for a press release from CBS or something? Caben42 (talk) 04:18, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

I removed the section above from the article for various reasons: (1) This is original research, and (2) it is largely redundant to the information presented on the List of Survivor contestants. Thank you. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 18:27, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

This is absolutely not original research, but I fully support its removal because this content is unnecessary on the main page and is redundant. Reywas92Talk 23:16, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

Hi. I posted this. I feel either on this page or the contestants page, the names and total accumulated days played in the game should be stated somewhere. I realize looking at it that the "highest finish" and "seasons played" section are redundant, but I think SOMEWHERE the total days played should be posted for the contestants who have appeared on multiple seasons. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.87.189.112 (talk) 09:12, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

Hey just so i can get this out this is made wrong is isnt heightest finishes its how many days have all the recurring people done and just so we can get this out randy hasnt bettern any one on a final two/three counciel so all winners and runner ups technically have more days and he's tied with all contestents with 38 days so this list is way lacking in clearification but the work is apprecated and the results are equal with my ownMrInhibitor (talk) 04:19, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

There has been no confirmation yet, and there have been many rumors that Jeff Probst will not be returning for any more seasons. If the will continue the show, is unknown. Whitestorm17 (talk) 21:20, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

No official information yet, but it seems to be highly rumored that an upcoming season (assumed to be s23/24) will be in phillipeans or there may be a Celebrity Survivor soon based on the high speaking of this in various television shows/media outlets.--Cooly123 17:40, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

Original Research

The list of "firsts" and other trivial notations in the "notes" column is a bit much and full of WP:OR. We should cut quite a bit of this unless there are citations to show that it isn't original research. Also, it is making the table somewhat imbalanced and appears to be problematic per WP:TRIVIA. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 14:05, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

Is there an actual reason for including this in this article, as it stands (9/20/10) besides shamelessly linking Tengaged? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.78.150.34 (talk) 18:33, 23 September 2010 (UTC)

Guatemala- Maya vs Mayan

I just wanna set this straight already since I've reverted part this a lot in the past.

The logo used in the Guatemala page uses "Mayan," so some people point this out as the reason to change "Maya" to "Mayan." However, the tribe flag used on the actual show (http://resources.survivorphoenix.com/graphics/gallery/S11Tribes/Yaxh_Flag), the buffs (http://resources.survivorphoenix.com/graphics/gallery/S11mishmash/S11_Buffs), and these logos (http://resources.survivorphoenix.com/graphics/gallery/S11mishmash/S11previewlogo and http://resources.survivorphoenix.com/graphics/gallery/S11mishmash/image770500) all use "Maya." Which would seem to point out that "Maya" is the correct term to use.

Shouldn't we change all the "Mayan" references to "Maya," as well as the current logo used in the Guatemala page? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.69.88.193 (talk) 11:59, 26 December 2010 (UTC)

Yes, definitely. "Maya" is the correct term used. "Mayan" is just a very common mistake. TheTribeHasSpoken (talk) 08:00, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

Quotes?

Since each episode is named after a quote of a contestant (similar to the amazing race) could we list this into the article someway?--Cooly123 15:18, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

You double posted this over at Talk:Survivor: Redemption Island#Quotes? and since this article does not list any episode titles, I think the discussion is better suited over there. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 15:33, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

Could someone please change the format so the first thing you see is not the winner's name? Survivor is imported in other countries with a delay up to a couple of months in duration. Cassandra and Dreamz listing

I thought I'd put this here over the Fiji page since it would likely get more attention here.

Ever since Fiji concluded 4 years ago, Cassandra has been listed "before" Dreamz in all articles and lists pertaining to Fiji (ie, she was always given the "runner-up spot" even though they both got no votes to win) based on their seating order at the reunion (Cassandra was seated next to Earl) and because "Cassandra" is alphabetically before "Dreamz." However, a poster has recently edited the Fiji article to have Dreamz listed "before" Cassandra on the basis that Dreamz received less votes against him (2 to Cassandra's 5).

Before making any change, I'd like to know others' thoughts about this. Should this change be kept or reverted? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.69.88.145 (talk) 16:49, 21 May 2011 (UTC)

Hi there. That was me who made the change. I didn't actually think of/remember that seating arrangement at the reunion before I made the change, but I still think Dreamz should be first, based on the fact that he had less votes against him. But I'll go with whatever the concensus is. What does everyone think?~~Kangaross1989

Fiji's the only season I haven't seen, but from the discussion above, I'd have to agree with Dreamz being given runner-up status. I suppose you could always asterisk it as well TheTribeHasSpoken (talk) 08:30, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

Exile Island

I've been reading the notes for each season, and I've noticed that under Survivor: Exile Island, it says that this season introduced the Exile Island twist. I am not sure if that's entirely correct, though, because technically Exile Island was introduced in Palau, when Janu was taken to spend a night alone on a beach. Any thoughts? TheTribeHasSpoken (talk) 00:54, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

In fact, the episode in Palau was also called "Exile Island". This would be when it was first introduced. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Goobie m (talkcontribs) 01:43, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

Does it matter?

"First season to have a returning castaway be the winner in a season of 16 new castaways and 2 returning castaways." This fact is hardly worth mentioning in the notes column considdering this was only the second time two returnees played against 16 new players. It's like mentioning that Tina was the first female winner of survivor when she won season 2. I'm going to remove it.--Goobie m (talk) 05:16, 31 July 2011 (UTC)

I support that. Awhile ago, that column was swept of the trivia that collect in there. Perhaps it is time to sweep it from trivia again. Or maybe even remove the column entirely and leave all of the details to the season articles. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 20:32, 31 July 2011 (UTC)

Two tribes on one beach has happened before

In the notes column of the seasons table it claims that One World "Introduced both tribes living on the same beach as two different tribes." This however also occured in Survivor: Thailand for a short period in the middle of the season (the fake merge). Maybe somethinmg like 'the first time that two tribes lived on the same beach from the beginning of the season'. This fact may not even be worth mentioning yet.--Goobie m (talk) 02:57, 21 December 2011 (UTC)
