Vogue House??? edit

how is there not an article for vogue/ballroom house not listed???? it has a distinct musical style and associated sub-culture! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2606:6000:6182:2600:487A:EE4C:3EF:B2BB (talk) 01:35, 21 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Untitled edit

What about Jungle?

Jungle is far enough removed from house to be considered having nothing to do with it. Jungle also has a broken beat. I'm going to call BS on ultra house. Please give an example.

What about hardfloor or (related) wildpitch?

Correction: It's not "bitchy house", the proper terms are "Bitch Tracks" or "Beats" and sometimes, although rarely, "Ballroom Beats". Ballroom Beats is another sub-genre of house. Some might even say that it continues the original tradition of house as music made by Gay DJs for a Gay audience. Its origins are rooted in the era before house went mainstream and, like everything else, was co-opted by the larger society. This has led to the persistent re-writing of the history of house to exclude its Gay origins. The fact is that Frankie Knuckles is Gay. The Warehouse was a Gay nightclub. The people he created his music for originally were Gay people. So was the guy who trained him and sent him to work in Chicago, Larry Levan of the "Legendary Paradise Garage".

Why hasen't anybody mentioned Pumpin House? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.3.189.235 (talk) 17:42, 6 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Would love to see someone set the record "straight" for a change.

Bitchy House:

Since I added it I changed it to Bitch Tracks. I think though Bitch Tracks was an East Coast term. On the west coast it was known more as Bitchy House. But I've heard enough people call it Bitch Tracks that I thought I should change it.

Yikes! Can anyone follow this "Untitled" conversation?! Also, Larry Levan DID NOT "train" Frankie Knuckles, NOR DID he send "him to work in Chicago". They came up in New York at the same time, and partied at The Loft together, where they met Robert Williams. After Robert moved to Chicago, he begged Frankie to follow and DJ his club - The Warehouse. Read up on Robert Williams, it's a good history lesson. Hard house edit

I haven't changed it yet, but the description of hard house is incorrect; it claims that in the UK Hard house is just the old name for hard dance. However, hard house is just one type of hard dance. Hard dance is a much wider term, incorporating sub genres such as hard trance as well. Skip1337 (talk) 00:22, 1 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

What, no Piano House? 81.23.54.142 (talk) 20:25, 29 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Flash News for you user 29 December 2008 (UTC) I've just put Piano House on the Styles Of House Music list.

Who made all these so called genres of house music? edit

They don't exist. The only house music is chicago, garage, and deep. please. 208.176.169.89 (talk) 14:48, 22 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

First of all, that is your opinion only - other people will have different opinions. Wikipedia policy is to follow whatever reliable sources say about the subject. Second, the page is called "styles" instead of "genres" for a reason. --ThaddeusB (talk) 23:59, 22 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Blog House edit

Thank you whoever added some content under blog house affirming its legitimacy as a subculture and distinct genre of house music. It is worth noting this is the first house genre to be composed purely with digital audio workstations and disseminated to club djs and the public not through tapes and acetates but mp3s and serato. Despite the hipsterism associated with it, and the elitist disdain for thereof, (as evidenced by the deletion of the blog house wiki page) it is real and can't be ignored.

I propose we reinstate the blog house page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.67.187.103 (talk) 08:59, 14 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Soulful House edit

I always see that kind of house music in compilation albums, and in artists description in the whole internet, like Moto Blanco, Freemasons, Cahill, etc. I don't have a source, but you people who works in this page, would you investigate about this kind of house, maybe we can add this to the rest of the other sub-genres. — Preceding unsigned comment added by GlitterDream (talkcontribs) 06:43, 28 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

"Two friends" et al seem to have appropriated the "soul house" name for whatever electro they seem to be making exactly. But here in NYC when people talk about soulful house (and other cities like chicago, detroit), they are talking about a much older type of house with an often acoustic feel and soulful vocals. Artists like Louie Vega, Blaze. Related to Gospel House. This is what you get when you search youtube or traxsource for soulful house. I think the description should really be amended to reflect this reality. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.186.115.117 (talk) 04:28, 16 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Electro House edit

There is a new genre in the list for Swedish House, which does have relations to Electro House in terms of bass, but there is much more focus on synth and melodies as opposed to Electro. David Guetta and Avicii, in my opinion, produce mainly Swedish House tracks, but do include Electro House tracks in their discogs. I think this should be mentioned. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.37.24.16 (talk) 20:34, 11 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Euro house edit

Firstly, the term Euro House was coined in internet times. Before then, Eurodance was known as Eurodance when the music was still popular. It's that simple. There also needs to be an understanding on the differences between dance-pop and house music. One of the primary characteristics of dance-pop and specifically eurodance is the verse/chorus structure that is present in nearly all of the songs. House music isn't necessarily about that even though there are some examples present, house mainly sought repetition, Eurodance was very much opposite to that.

Also, the article for Eurodance here is not very well sourced, but if you must use it, there is this line here: Not all European house music was absorbed into the Eurodance genre which suggests right here that the genre has distinctions from house music. Also, nowhere the opening paragraph suggests that Eurodance IS a house genre.

House music was for club listening, pop music sought chart-topping and that's what Eurodance did. And aside from certain contrasting traits that are only sonically, how is some of Lady Gaga and Katy Perry's material so structurally different, whom are widely regarded as pop musicans?

Here's the article on Allmusic: http://www.allmusic.com/style/euro-dance-ma0000005013

Nowhere does it suggest it is house, only related to it. And while it talks about being club oriented, it eventually agrees with my case that "many artists concentrate on crafting hit singles".--F-22 RaptörAces High 02:24, 5 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

I would favour its exclusion from the list. Let's keep it to strictly house. Although I have discovered a table of dance music genres on page 228 in The Digital Musician which places Eurodance within the house column. - Shiftchange (talk) 10:24, 6 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Too many House Music Genres and Styles have been removed? edit

For those who didn't know proto Detroit techno it was called Detroit House, I'm disgusted, Blake Baxter, Kreeem, Inner City's Big Fun (1988), This is all House Music. Oh and what about Bleep House, Clonk House, Leftfield House, Rave House, they've been removed as well, And Freestyle House! That's another important Style Of House Music.≈ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.129.104.37 (talk) 19:17, 30 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Everything was under the House rubric 88-90. This article needs deleting. --Scherben808 (talk) 16:49, 9 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

What! No Gabber House?! edit

I can't believe that Gabber House hasn't been uploaded that's a very Dutch Type Of House Music. It should be put on Styles Of House Music page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.129.111.4 (talk) 13:01, 17 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Currently Gabber house redirects to Mainstream hardcore. That article isn't within the house music category nor does it have any references. To be listed here someone needs to find reliable sources demonstrating its legit and that its house music. - Shiftchange (talk) 21:46, 17 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
mainstream hardcore is very different from its predecessors gabber (gabber house) and bouncy techno, it shares many similarities with Chicago & LA Hard House — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2606:6000:6182:2600:487A:EE4C:3EF:B2BB (talk) 01:38, 21 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Rename to List of house music subgenres? edit

Most of the terms listed here are recognized as subgenres of house music (this is directly written in this article and on individual articles of the subgenres). The term "musical style" is used by far as Interchargable term with "music genre" on English wiki, while the term "music style" is not described anywhere on wiki. It is used as random synonym for genre/subgenre/microgenre, without any logic or principles. I think it would be better to bring everything to one form and define all the described terms as subgenres of house music, as well as rename the entire list to "List of house music subgenre". Afro House edit

Hi @Solidest, I noticed that you have nominated Afro House for WP:SPEEDY deletion and your reasoning WP:G6. As well as de-linked it here Styles of house music#A , as per your edit summary ("MOS:GENRECAPS") https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Styles_of_house_music&action=history.

As per MOS:5LETTER the genre is predominantly spelled as such, they are clearly two seperate words, meaning they are both the first and last words of the title(s). Which warrants for two seperate words, capitalization(s).

There is also another page in the same category Hard NRG spelled in the same or similiar manner, without any issues.

Previously, you accused me of "posting false sources" @Afro Tech
