Relation to ice luge

edit

Other than the prone riding position and greater than 70 miles per hour (100 km/h) speed, street luge has little relation to its winter namesake (luge).

During the Seven network's coverage of the Winter Olympics, it mentioned that Australian Hannah Campbell-Pegg sometimes practiced on a road luge. Do many other lugers also practice using road luges, and if so, should the above text be re-worded? Andjam 05:05, 18 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Answer: An ice luge can be fitted with wheels and used on a paved surface. But, and ice luge with wheels and a street luge are two quite different machines. See this picture.

Confusion in text

edit

I don't know anything about street luging (hence my visit to Wikipedia!), but this seems confusing.

Deaths

edit

There is no mention of deaths in the sport. I suppose notability of the death is required, ie. a world champion or notable person in another area who happens to be killed luging. But for the article to be encyclopaedic it should surely be mentioned?

This was brought to my attention by the December 17, 2011 death in Australia of a 50 year old software company owner and website designer, Sue Wickenden http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/nation/sue-wickenden-dies-in-freak-street-luge-crash/story-e6frg6nf-1226224682291.

Pronunciation

It would help to provide a phonetic transcription of the word "luge" at the beginning. Not all Wikipedia readers live in California. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.11.11.220 (talk) 12:49, 3 May 2013 (UTC) Luge is a French word. But it sounds like a good thing to add — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shardvarks (talkcontribs) 02:39, 5 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
