In the 1880 census, there are enumerations in Staunton township under the heading Staunton village. I believe that this unicorporated village later became part of Troy. Perhaps as there is a reference in Wikipedia to a town of Staunton in Fayette county, there should be some mention of this village in Miami county as a point of clarification. I haven't been able to confirm that Troy annexed Staunton village, but based on the map of how Troy has clearly advanced across the river into what was Staunton township, I think that must be what happened.
