WP:BIDIRECTIONAL edit

WP:BIDIRECTIONAL mandates the inclusion of {{Schubert operas}} on this page afaik. --Francis Schonken (talk) 15:40, 30 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

No, it does not. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 15:51, 30 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
And what would be against it? --Francis Schonken (talk) 15:55, 30 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
No problems then? --Francis Schonken (talk) 23:38, 3 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

For clarity: WP:BIDIRECTIONAL rationale abandoned edit

For clarity: No problems then (to include {{Schubert operas}} on this page if the WP:BIDIRECTIONAL rationale is abandoned as a reason for inclusion)? Sorry, shouldn't have used that rationale in an edit summary. It is however, afaics, not problematic to transclude that template here. --Francis Schonken (talk) 16:13, 4 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
Asking again: no problems then to include {{Schubert operas}} on this page? --Francis Schonken (talk) 12:18, 12 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

I don't know why you keep asking, of course it's not a problem, however, a bottom navbox including these works would be better. Compare the discussions on projects classical music and opera. Compare Verdi: his bottom navbox was created in 2013, the side navbox for his operas replaced mostly during 2015. Why not, better late than never, do the same for Schubert? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:13, 23 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Template:Lists of compositions by Franz Schubert edit

Please explain to me why you'd inclusion is mandated? I actually think that the sidebar that you keep returning, {{Lists of compositions by Franz Schubert}}, is redundant to the bottom navbox, and should also not be there. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:53, 4 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
My reading of the guideline I find ("Every article that transcludes a given navbox should normally also be included as a link in the navbox so that the navigation is bidirectional.") mandates that stage works ... need to be included in any navbox used on the page, but not the other way round, which means that not every navbox mentioning the stage works ... needs to be present. Redundance is confusing to the readers, therefore I'd stick to the bottom navbox alone. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:07, 4 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

{{Lists of compositions by Franz Schubert}} is a different template, for which, as far as I can remember, no WP:BIDIRECTIONAL rationale was used to justify inclusion on this page – different topic, so different talk page section. The page is linked from the template so seems only logical to include it here. General problems with that template are hardly something to discuss on the talk page of a single one of the pages that use it: Template talk:Lists of compositions by Franz Schubert or Template talk:Franz Schubert would be the place to initiate such discussion. --Francis Schonken (talk) 16:13, 4 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

No clarity edit

I don't like a header placed above my comment that I didn't mean, nor do I understand "abandoned". Repeating, generally, not for one specific template: Biderectional seems to mean that when a navigation template is in an article, the article should appear in the template. It seems not to require that that the template is present in articles which it navigates to. Look at links for {{Mozart operas}}, for example. I conclude that {{Schubert operas}} doesn't need to appear here, nor anywhere else. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:30, 12 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

  • Re. "abandoned": look it up in a dictionary, tx. --Francis Schonken (talk) 12:41, 12 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
It's not that I don't understand the term, - I don't understand what you think was abandoned by whom. If you mean that over time the operatic side navboxes have been abandoned in a work in progress, you are right. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:16, 23 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
