Now Squidward Is Gay

  • Believe it or not, I think I may actually agree with this person. They wrote: "It seems that in response of the growing controversy over SpongeBob's accused homosexuality, the creators are now trying to make Squidward seem gay to take the spotlight off of SpongeBob."

In "Culture Shock", Squidward wore a leotard while dancing. Mostly women wear leotards when dancing. (Plainnym 16:55, 9 June 2006 (UTC))

  • Culture Shock was one of the very first episodes, written and made during the time Spongebob was released. --69.145.123.171 04:09, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
  • I disagree with Plainnym. Anyone can wear a leotard. When I was younger, I said something to my mom about leotards being for girls and unitards being for boys, but she begged to differ. Understand also that this has nothing to do with being gay or not not mattering whether or not me or my mom was right.
Here's some proof for you:
1. In "Whale of a Birthday" Squidward admits that he likes boy bands.
2. He reads a magazine called "Interpretive Dance Quarterly".
3. In "Have You Seen This Snail (Where's Gary)" he says that he's "spoiling himself".
4. In "Frankendoodle" he wanted to get a perm.
5 In "Good Neighbors" he orders a foot massage and a manicure.
  • There's probably more where this came from. --Plainnym 16:40, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
  • YOU RESPONDED THAT FAST??!!! DUDE TELL ME HOW YOU DID THAT! --Plainnym 16:42, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
  • He also powders his nose. Something that men do? I think not! --Plainnym 21:19, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
  • i don't think it would matter if Squidward listened to a boy band. Also, dancing isn't only for females. At foot massage isnt only for females either. -AMK152 01:35, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
  • The boy band sounds similar to bands like N'Sync or The Backstreet Boys. And powdering his nose sounds ahem...odd, don't you think? --Plainnym 16:40, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
  • Powdering his nose is odd, but the boy band thing is not. -AMK152 17:37, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
  • Which leaves the pulse-pounding question...why does Squidward powder his nose?--Plainnym 14:31, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
  • I don't know... -AMK152 19:39, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
  • Maybe he has a spot that he is trying to cover up? Arniep 00:56, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
  • Anyhow, putting that Squidward is Gay in the article does not help the reader one bit. And encyclopedias should not have original research. Abby724 01:49, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
  • Okay, basically everything said here to make Squidward "gay" is basically doing stuff such as his culture-interests and relaxation. As I have said, it doesnt matter if he like s a boy band; boys also dance too; He likes to "relax" He HATES his job, and he basically tries to fell fancy. (Squillium is living his dreams) Squidward wishes he doesnt work at the Krusty Krab, and that he were able to show off his art and music. Basically, he doesnt like to work, he wants to be fancy. In conclusion, Squidward is not gay. -AMK152 22:52, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

You all need to learn that this is a CARTOON & the rules of humans don't apply to fish in the sea anyway.

"SpongeBob Meets Guns n' Roses"???

Is it true that CBS confirmed an episode called "SpongeBob Meets Guns n' Roses" or did I just have a crazy dream? (Plainnym 19:51, 18 June 2006 (UTC))

A vandal had said that a few months ago... -AMK152 20:26, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

Thank you so much! I thought then I was crazy for a second there. (Plainnym 16:31, 22 June 2006 (UTC)) Since Pantera was in one episode, I can see why you believe this.Ollie the Magic Skater 20:49, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

Pruning external links?

The list of external links is getting rather long. WP:NOT. Perhaps it's time to discuss removing some of them? -- Gogo Dodo 18:57, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Templates

I've moved History and Cast/Characters closer to the top for logic before getting into the show's popularity, but this article needs a large amount of work. It's filled with uncited opinion, a huge amount of disallowed original research, and parts of it read like press puffery. A major media franchise such as this needs a much better article. -- 24.215.162.203 16:27, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

Spongebob Theme Song Backwards

Should we add that the spongebob theme song backwards says 'aunt pearls small blouse'?Princess Homestar 21:55, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

  • No. it does not say that. -AMK152 22:19, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

Have you even heard it backwards?Princess Homestar 22:54, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

  • Yep. -AMK152 00:16, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

If the message was controversial, like Pokerap "I love satan" thing, i would put it in there, but "anut peals small blouse" is not worthy enough to be part of the article

I wish people would quit this "nonscense" before we get scientists and anyalizers involved. -AMK152 00:34, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

rainbow = gay

In an episode of Spongebob, He used his "imagination" to make a rainbow, do u think this is a reference to homosexuality?--Slash's snakepit 22:45, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Yep, and while we're at it, why not make a whole section about how someone can spell "ass" by rearranging the words from "SpongeBob SquarePants"? --Philo 03:53, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

I don't think it does.(Rainbow)Although, I am ten years old.

Patrick's shorts

In the pic at the top of the page, Patrick's shorts have a dark black border around them, and it looks like he has a black waistband. What's up with that? Can someone edit the image to change that? It looks really weird. --CrazyLegsKC 04:22, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Good show. --So Fresh and So Clean_Wish U Was Me 19:52, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

I replaced it with a better picture. --SpongeSebastian 03:18, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

Biblical References (Christianity)

I (temporarily?) removed the following:

Speilburg could be telling the truth by saying SpongeBob is not homosexual, and that these are all coincidences because in the episode where SpongeBob and Patrick go back to medevial times, SpongeBob went to get some weapons. The Blacksmith went to give SpongeBob asword, but SpongeBob refused and took a jellyfish net. This may be a reference to David getting armor from Saul to go fight Goliath, but refusing because it was to heavy and just taking a sling.

Without some citations to show that this is indeed what was intended, this is just speculation. I can think of a dozen other things the incident could be a reference to. Wikipedia:No original research. DJ Clayworth 18:28, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

I didn't do original research. And I put "may". And if you list the dozen other things (and if they're just as popular as the bible) that may be a permanent removal. But I just thought it may be one... I'm not logged in again am I? 67.140.166.26 18:33, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

Excuse me

Excuse me, but there are several people (Zunaid,Winter and Ryulong) have threatened to block my IP for "vandalising" spongebob squarepants episode entries; however, I've never even been to this page! The only two pages I visit regularly are Super Robot Wars and especially Battle Realms. I assume these three made a mistake, however I feel offended that they should make a grave insult and threat to me. check my IP. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.163.208.50 (talkcontribs)

Peer Review Updates

The following suggestions were generated by a semi-automatic javascript program, and may or may not be accurate for the article in question.

  • Please expand the lead to conform with guidelines at WP:LEAD. The article should have an appropriate number of paragraphs as is shown on WP:LEAD, and should adequately summarize the article.[1]
  • Per WP:CONTEXT and WP:MOSDATE, months and days of the week generally should not be linked. Years, decades, and centuries can be linked if they provide context for the article.
  • Per WP:MOSNUM, there should be a non-breaking space -   between a number and the unit of measurement. For example, instead of 18mm, use 18 mm, which when you are editing the page, should look like: 18 mm.[2]
  • Per WP:CONTEXT and WP:BTW, years with full dates should be linked; for example, link January 15, 2006, but do not link January 2006.[3]
  • As per WP:MOSDATE, dates shouldn't use th; for example, instead of using January 30th was a great day, use January 30 was a great day.
  • Generally, trivia sections are looked down upon; please either remove the trivia section or incorporate any important facts into the rest of the article.
  • Please alphabetize the interlanguage links.[4]
  • There are a few occurrences of weasel words in this article- please observe WP:AWT. Certain phrases should specify exactly who supports, considers, believes, etc., such a view. For example,
    • it has been
    • might be weasel words, and should be provided with proper citations (if they already do, or are not weasel terms, please strike this comment).[5]
  • Watch for redundancies that make the article too wordy instead of being crisp and concise. (You may wish to try Tony1's redundancy exercises.)
    • While additive terms like “also”, “in addition”, “additionally”, “moreover”, and “furthermore” may sometimes be useful, overusing them when they aren't necessary can instead detract from the brilliancy of the article. This article has 17 additive terms, a bit too much.
    • Vague terms of size often are unnecessary and redundant - “some”, “a variety/number/majority of”, “several”, “a few”, “many”, “any”, and “all”. For example, “All pigs are pink, so we thought of a number of ways to turn them green.”
    • Temporal terms like “over the years”, “currently”, “now”, and “from time to time” often are too vague to be useful, but occasionally may be helpful. “I am now using a semi-bot to generate your peer review.”
  • As done in WP:FOOTNOTE, footnotes usually are located right after a punctuation mark (as recommended by the CMS, but not mandatory), such that there is no space inbetween. For example, the sun is larger than the moon [2]. is usually written as the sun is larger than the moon.[2]
  • Please ensure that the article has gone through a thorough copyediting so that the it exemplifies some of Wikipedia's best work. See also User:Tony1/How to satisfy Criterion 2a. [6]

You may wish to browse through User:AndyZ/Suggestions for further ideas. Thanks, AMK152 22:50, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

How In the World is "I Love You" Gay?

  • I want to know why everyone seems to think that when SpongeBob says "I love you," to someone he means it in a homosexual way. That's the furthest thing from the truth. Like none of you guys have ever told a male relative (or friend for that matter) "I love you" in a brotherly way? I guess that makes people gay nowadays... Doodoobutter 01:03, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
  • I agree. AND SpongeBob is not gay. -AMK152 02:10, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
  • True, but SpongeBob does do many effeminate things. Because of that I don't think you should have taken away all the things in the controversy list that make SpongeBob seem gay. Even though he's not at all homosexual, those feminine things he does is part of controversy because many people find it odd or strange. :-) Doodoobutter 21:11, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
  • Note: Spongebob never told Patrick "I love you", although

that could very well happen, but why even list something that isn't yet true?

  • SpongeBob is immature; he doesnt have "feminine characteristics" -AMK152 15:19, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
  • This is not the place to decide whether SpongeBob is gay or not, it's to write an encyclopedia article about it. DJ Clayworth 17:24, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
  • Yes, you're right. But someone put, in the article in related innolude, that Patrick once said "I love You." Which, therby you can read the entire discussion. We are not arguing about whether or not SpongeBob is gay. For the reason being, that, he is NOT gay. -AMK152 00:26, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

SpongeBob/SpongeBuddies

This article claims that SpongeBob used to be SpongeBuddies. I thought SpongeBob's working title was SpongeBoy. Where did Star500 get that info from? Was it from one of the SpongeBob DVDs (I don't own all of them)? Squirepants101 21:51, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

Untrue statement

When naming reasons why many fans believe Nickelodeon ( alex john william stewart made and produced it)has gone downhill in recent years, SpongeBob is often listed as an exception.

Squidward is an octopus, not a squid

I have reverted a user's edit. It's been discussed before that Squidward is not a squid. Even Stephen Hillenburg said that Squidward is not a squid, but a rare type of octopus. I've placed this here because I accidentally pressed the enter key when typing my edit summary. Squirepants101 01:22, 1 December 2006 (UTC) BRANDINI THE GREAT SAYS: When does Hillenburg say that? After all he is named SQUIDward! BrandiniTheGreat 19:54, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

It said that in the Spongebob Movie documentary thing. The creator says he was called Squidward because an Octo-something wouldn't sound good. And if he was a squid he would have 10 tentacles but he has 6, which is closer to the 8 that octopi have.

Yes, Hillenburg did say that 'Squid' would sound much better then 'Octo' in his name. And I also believe that he also stated that Squidward has only 6 tentacles because it's easier for animation? Spongy-Anime 17:22, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Untrue Rumor

Due To An Incident,SpongeBob Was Cancelled. The Cancellation Started Because Of A Little Girl At The Beach. She Went Into The Ocean To Find A Pineapple So She Could Find SpongeBob. She Drowned And Died. The Parents Sued Nickelodeon And Told Them To Cancel It. They Couldn't. Too Many People Loved It. Rugrats Was The #1 Show On Nick. When SpongeBob Came On It Beat The Charts Making SpongeBob The #1 Show On Nick. SpongeBob's Last Episode Was SpongeBob Meets The Strangler/Pranks A Lot. It Came Back On Nick In May 2005 With Fear of a Krabby Patty/Shell of a Man And Krabs vs. Plankton/The Lost Mattress.

I fail to see why an untrue rumor that has been proven on Snopes.com makes Wikipedia concerning the 'Spongebob Death'. This should also be edited out.

BRANDINI THE GREAT SAYS: I believe this rumor to be inappropriate and untrue. There has also been at least 10 new episodes since SpongeBob was supposedly cancelled. "Squidward lives in an Easter Island head. "

I wouldnt say that "Squidward lives in an Easter Island head".. while it is a stone head its made of several distinct pieces (nose, eyes, ears) and most importantly has 2 ringed openings as eye holes that are a distinctly different from what we generally consider to be an 'Easter Island Head'

Anal point i know.. but after the 24hour Spongebob marathon, on Christmas day, these things seems strangely important.

  • Look at the image here: Easter Island Head. Also, a quote from SB-129 Squidward is saying, "I miss Bikini Bottom, I miss my Easter Island head... I even miss SpongeBob." -AMK152 04:10, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

"The Flying Dutchman" is a ship and "Davy Jones" is a person. They are both fictional (as far as I know) and have existed in stories and stuff long before spongebob or pirates of the caribbean

Add his address?

I was watching the episode No Free Rides from Season 2 and there is a scene when Mrs. Puff gives SpongeBob his driver's licence and his address is shown as 124 Conch St Bikini Bottom. TV Y7

Yesterday I noticed a TV Y7 bug in the top left corner. This wasn't a mistake, because it's still there. So SpongeBob is now Y7.-TheVofSteel

And that's why noting rating information in the article is usually considered to be not so helpful. It can change per episode, network, rerun and more importantly per country. As such it's impossible to note correctly in the article and to do so might even be considered "unencyclopedic". A description as "An animated show targeted at young children (+/- 7 and older), with litlle to none bad language. Although originally targeted at a young audience it has also garnered a large group of adulescent and adult enthousiastic followers of the show." is usually a better idea. Why it was rerated TV-Y7? Shkarter1985 02:14, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

The humor is NOT childish in the least bit, and some of it even has deep phsycological innuendos related to current events etc. Unsigned

It could have just been the episode itself. I believe the episode Sailor_Mouth was rated Y7. Some episodes feature some violence in them, reminiscent of Tom and Jerry which could warrant a Y7. Nodnarb232001 03:42, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

If the show is aimed at preschoolers I don't think it should have a TV Y7 rating.Themasterofwiki 17:37, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Tiny Tim?

Is it appropriate to have Tiny Tim listed as a "guest star" just because one of his songs was used in an episode (after his own death, I might add)? -Grammaticus Repairo 04:42, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

I don't believe it is, along with having Pantera as one either. It should be with the music featured on the show, not the guest stars. Although I might add that its aparently impossible to have someone guest star on a cartoon, so maybe they're refering to an outsider making music(voicing) for the show. I don't know, but Tiny Tim had died way before that, so it shouldn't be there. Unforgotten 23:43, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

I disagree. I think the song is perfect for this scene. -K.D.
