EP meaning edit

this article doesn't perhaps cover the term well enough. For example, I'm trying to find out, what does a "split vote" mean in case of the European Parliament voting for or against proposals, and I don't see the answer in this article. Or am I just being too stupid (not an impossible option)? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.235.69.157 (talk) 12:36, 29 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

Merge with Spoiler vote? edit

Over on "spoiler vote", I see two votes pro, two anti, and two suggesting other courses: hardly an overwhelming majority in favour of a merge, but possibly an amusingly apt example of the "spoiler vote" in action.

A "split vote" is generally a very different thing from "vote splitting" (which correctly redirects to "spoiler vote").

It is normally used synonymously with "hung vote", or "evenly split vote". The meaning is "a vote in which no decision can be made". Unlike "spoiler vote" there is no suggestion that the split is caused by a third entity taking votes from an otherwise likely winner.

I feel that it is probable the "spoiler vote" sense of "split vote" is regional slang or political jargon, and do not think a merge is appropriate, as voting is hardly restricted to politics. --DewiMorgan 02:30, 18 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Merge with vote splitting edit

There is significant overlap with the topic of the destination article and the content of this article requires the context of a broader topic. Besides, clean up, additional sources and perhaps little rewriting are advisable for this article. --DaniScoreKeeper (talk) 22:19, 30 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

There is not significant overlap between these two topics. At least there won't be when the split vote article is improved. The use of the term 'split vote' seldom refers to vote splitting. So, I recommend first improving this article, and only then consider the possibility of merging the two articles. VoteFair (talk) 16:12, 31 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
These are two completely separate (opposite, even) subjects that happen to have similar names. Under WP:NOTDICT the suggestion to merge them is a misunderstanding of the encylopedia's organization. The tag should be removed, and replaced by disambiguation/distinguish headers.--Wragge (talk) 07:37, 26 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
