I've amended the speed restrictions for heavy goods vehicles (although to be honest I'm not sure this page is the right page to go into details on such restrictions), but I also know there are varying restrictions on other vehicles (such as coaches and non-HGV towing vehicles) ... someone with more knowledge of these regulations needs to fill in the details.

This article in its previous form described Special Roads in terms of England and Wales not the UK, several details are/were inapplicable to Scotland and Northern Ireland. There are three different sets of road/highway law in the UK and terms such as "road" and "highway" have meanings which vary by jurisdiction and legal context.
