Hotlinking

As opposed to hotlinking, why not just upload a spacer gif to Wikipedia? Neftaly 03:52, 17 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Unnecessary example

edit

From the article: "For instance, let's say the developer wants to create a blue box that is 500 x 500 pixels wide and high. Instead of using a separate blue graphic that is 500 x 500 pixels (taking up additional bandwidth), the developer can specify the table cell background color and specify the dimensions of the spacer GIF that already exists." This is a rather ridiculous example, since it would be trivial to create a 1x1 blue image and have it stretched to 500x500 using the height and width attributes of the img tag. I think this is original research on the part of the author. Ciotog (talk) 13:36, 28 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I removed 3 links from the bottom of the article. Two were dead and the third was a link to a page where you could download a spacer gif! I think most of us could just create one in 2 seconds. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.164.138.189 (talk) 09:23, 1 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Merged Spacer .GIF into Spacer GIF. --Joshua Issac (talk) 16:25, 8 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

This page and Spacer .GIF are about the same thing. While they contain similar information, there is enough different information and references that either one could take the other's info, while the one that doesn't take the info gets changed to a redirect. I don't know if there's a format or style preference as far as title is concerned - Spacer DOT GIF is noted as being written in British English, so perhaps that article should be merged here. Is "delete because it's English" now a policy?!
I would agree with the merge, but it should be to whichever is the better article name, using the best of the merged content. We should not choose one over the other because we don't like the English variant it uses. Andy Dingley (talk) 21:51, 5 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
I'd also note that the article using inline cites is the one tagged for not using them (the other article just has an uncited list of ELs). Andy Dingley (talk) 21:53, 5 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
It's a policy in my heart :p. It just seemed to me that there's not really any particular reason (strong national ties or what have you) for an article about Spacer GIFs (or .GIFs) to be in British English (not that there's a good reason for it to be in American either). As far as I can tell, only two words use a British spelling (realised & colour) in that article and only one (color) is US in this one, so it's not really hard to change either way. But when the two pages get merged, one variant will have to be chosen.
It's worth noting that the main article on GIFs (Graphics Interchange Format) does not put the period in front of the abbreviation, so it seems to me that this article (instead of Spacer .GIF) should get the main article. Felderburg (talk) 16:54, 7 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
