Album or compilation?

edit

Apple Music has always sorted the way Wikipedia has when it comes to Gorillaz discography: 3 compilations, 6 albums+1 remix. For Song Machine Season One, they have sorted album as Gorillaz' seventh studio album. Would this be verification enough for its status as an album? Or is it a compilation still somehow? - K-popguardian (talk) 18:32, 9 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

[UPDATE] Consequence of Sound mentions this isn't a traditional album but that there's no way to sort this yet, they cited Russel's comment about "a whole new way of doing what we do." So yeah there's not an official thing for Song Machine yet. I would say an album though because there are many albums that've released this many singles before a release (ex: The Now Now had 6 singles before the album released), and albums like SHINee's The Story of Light, or more closer to the song machine concept, DAY6's "Every Day6" program were divided up into occasional smaller releases before being released as studio albums. Further to the point is the fact that these were all recorded to be in the same release together and were recorded in sessions aimed at releasing the album. I'm not sure what Gorillaz have this classified as but this is very much like a studio album more than a compilation release. - K-popguardian (talk) 21:25, 9 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

There's a lot of precedence in Japan for this style of album, where singles preceding albums has been the norm for 40+ years. In the mid 2000s there were some shocking examples of studio albums, such as 7 out of 12 songs being released beforehand, or even 10 out of 14 tracks. They were consistently considered studio albums, despite the albums basically compiling 2-3 years' worth of singles. --Prosperosity (talk) 23:52, 9 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
It's an album confirmed by Gorillaz Instagram.[1] - DaniMoonstarMirage (talk) 15:50, 7 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

I wouldn't say this confirms it as an album, considering there are artists who will refer to even extended plays as an album release. However, we have already made the case for it being an album so doesn't look like things will change anyway. - K-popguardian (talk) 17:15, 7 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Anyway, I don't understand the confusion, it has exactly what a studio album should have, the only new here are some video singles labeled as "Episodes". - DaniMoonstarMirage (talk) 03:34, 8 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Murdoc teases the upcoming album as a "Brand New Album".[2] - DaniMoonstarMirage (talk) 15:43, 9 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Official Album's Title

edit

Changed the album's title from the main article of Gorillaz and here. According to music.apple.com and Gorillaz Social Networks, the official name of the album is 'Song Machine, Season One: Strange Timez'. However I don't know how to change the article's title of the Album to 'Song Machine, Season One: Strange Timez'. DaniMoonstarMirage (talk) 21:52, 10 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

[UPDATE] Nervermind, figured out how to do it. DaniMoonstarMirage (talk) 22:00, 10 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Incorrect album art

edit

The album art in the infobox is actually not the album cover. My guess is it's an older version that was posed on Hewlett's Instagram, the actual cover art is a little different and has some elements subtracted. This is the actual cover art that was used: https://img.discogs.com/aUdgkIuXit9gsMoxlwlPBrHCkCE=/fit-in/600x600/filters:strip_icc():format(jpeg):mode_rgb():quality(90)/discogs-images/R-16091535-1603295397-8053.jpeg.jpg Can anyone change this? I'd do it myself but I can't figure out the fair use restrictions on the Commons. Basil the Bat Lord (talk) 05:58, 10 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
