dab page

edit

A dab page should be created instead of someone removing valid information because they think "silene"s are just plants. 70.55.84.13 (talk) 09:08, 27 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

number of species

edit

The article mentions there being about 300 species, but wikispecies only has 69, and the USDA plants database shows 88. What do we go with? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cynops3 (talkcontribs) 05:01, 17 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Try 700 species, read [1] to get an understanding of the completity of the issue. Hardyplants (talk) 07:50, 17 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

genus Lychnis

edit

genus Lychnis is currently redirecting to Silene, though there is apparently still some debate regarding it's placement. Maybe someone who knows their stuff can add something to the Taxonomy section regarding the history and consensus (if/when there is one). From wikispecies:

"Note: This genus is often found subsumed into Silene L. (1753) (Tropicos, 2017). However, Popp et al. (2008) and Greenberg & Donoghue (2011) found the above circumscription monophyletic. The relationship is ambiguous and will depend on work that needs to be undertaken on Silene and it relatives (Hernández-Ledesma et al., 2015)."

Plants of the World Online regards Lychnis as a synonym of Silene. see [2] Plantsurfer 10:44, 21 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
