This is an important musical term in the discussion of mensural notation. German terminology is standard in the the discussion of notation of the ars nova. Wikipedia articles are generally deficient in discussing this very particular system of music notation (found in only four sources: Wolfenbeuttel 1 and 2, Florence, and Seville). It is unsurprising the term would not be linked to, given this paucity.
The actual item described is a very clear distinct item.
