Mention by James Tod?

Please give proper page references to James Tod's work. There is no mention of Shekhsar, Godara, Pandu or Kalu in his index. Also, please explain the terms "SC 1182 and ST 4" - most readers of English will not know what these refer to. John Hill 07:28, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Cause of misunderstandings

Well, Mr. Burdak, you will be pleased to know that it seems I have found the reason for many of our disagreements over Tod's work.

We are obviously using different editions of the Annals and Antiquities of Rajasthan. I am using the edition published by Low Price Publications, Delhi (Reprint: 1990; ISBN 81-85395-68-3), which was, apparently "edited with an introduction and notes by William Crooke, C.I.E."; whereas you seem to be using an earlier, unedited and uncorrected edition which varies in a number of important ways from the edition I have. For instance, the edition you have given a link to on the internet not only has different page numbers, but it uses "Jit" where mine has "Jat". Yours has "Shekhsir" where mine has "Shaikhsar", and so, on and on.

So, it is not a matter of me "showing ignorance" to prove my point, but it looks like that we have both been right on a number of issues. That is why it is so important to always give the full publication details of the books you are quoting from (which you did not do here).

It is a shame we have had these misunderstandings - hopefully we won't have so many in the future.

I am also glad to see that you have now explained the abbreviations "SC" and "ST" in the article as I don't think many non-Indians would understand them and you did not point out previously that they were explained in the links you gave. Yours, John Hill 06:15, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
