Untitled edit

Most of the material on the Z Special Unit page actually belongs here or on the Inter-Allied Services Department page.

Here's the plan structure-wise for the SRD page:

After a few summary paragraphs...

Organisation

Discuss the structure of the SRD from inception in 1943 and it's reorganisation from Special Operations Executive-style "Country Sections" into "Groups" in late 1944 to its disbandment in 1946.

Locations

SRD training, administrative and headquarters locations. E.g. Z Experimental Station, Fraser Commando School, Mount Martha Research Station, School of Eastern Interpreters, Careening Bay Camp (Special Boat School), Advanced Training Camp Morotai, Advanced Training Camp Darwin, "Harbury", Leanyer, SRD HQ Labuan, SRD HQ Morotai, SRD HQ Hollandia, etc.

Operations

Listing of all SRD operations.

Page name - Special Operations Australia or Services Reconnaissance Department? edit

The history of the unit produced after the war in the National Archives is named Special Operations Australia.

"Official History of the Operations and Administration of] Special Operations - Australia [(SOA), also known as the Inter-Allied Services Department (ISD) and Services Reconnaissance Department (SRD)"

This page was originally named Special Operations Australia and was moved on 24 March 2007 for this reason "(moved Special Operations Australia to Services Reconnaissance Department: more common name)"

Suggest to revert page name back to "Special Operations Australia".Melbguy05 (talk) 22:40, 9 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Gday the relevant policy is WP:COMMONNAME so I guess it would probably be instructive to review the literature available and see which name is most commonly used. For what its worth, The Oxford Companion to Australian Military History (Second Edition p. 508) lists this organisation under the name proposed, i.e. Special Operations Australia. So there may indeed be a valid argument to move it back unless there are other sources which disagree. Is there anybody else with thoughts on this? Anotherclown (talk) 01:51, 10 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
Left this for a while after I had changed the intro. Argument whether to use the WP:COMMONNAME or the WP:OFFICIALNAMES. Going to be big job changing entries on other pages from SRD to SOA which I would want to do - always with an explanation in the page that SRD was the cover name for SOA - if this was moved back to Special Operations Australia. Around 20 pages contain SOA and around 70 pages contain SRD. --Melbguy05 (talk) 03:25, 18 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
